Bob's Red Mill Natural Foods (Bob’s Red Mill) is a 100% employee-owned food company headquartered in Milwaukie, Oregon. Bob’s Red Mill was founded by Bob and Charlee Moore in 1978 with the mission of building a company that would provide wholesome foods to folks around the world, and offer financial security to its employees. Since then it has grown into a renowned company specializing in whole grain, gluten-free, organic, and natural foods.
Bob’s Red Mill became employee-owned in 2010 when they implemented an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). On the 10th anniversary of their ESOP in 2020, the company transitioned to 100% employee-owned. As the company grew and became more successful, Bob found himself fending off offers from large corporations that wanted to buy Bob’s Red Mill. On the transition to employee-ownership, Bob said, “Setting up an ESOP was just the right thing to do. I have people that have worked with me for over 30 years, and each and every one of them deserves this.”
Today that means each employee-owner has a vested interest in the profitability of the company, and keenly realizes that what they do on a day-to-day basis can affect everyone. They are in it together, and they take pride in our work as they strive to bring fresh, wholesome food to the world.
