Founded in 1992, Small Mine Development (SMD) specializes in underground hardrock mining, offering services from exploration through engineering, development, production mining, and ultimately, closure. The company operates across multiple states in the western United States, providing innovative and safe mining solutions to its clients.
Small Mine Development became employee-owned in 2020 when it implemented an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). The decision to transition to employee ownership was driven by a desire to create a sustainable and forward-thinking company that rewards employees for their dedication and hard work.
