Brown and Caldwell has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Vancouver, B.C. team. We are looking for a candidate with a broad experience in electrical design and management including, but not limited to: design and equipment upgrades, power system studies including arc flash hazards analysis, low and medium voltage power distribution system design in an industrial setting, equipment design and selection including motor control centers, drives, switchgear, panelboards, substation transformers, and related equipment, drawing creation including, power plans and layouts, one-lines, and wiring diagrams. The candidate will have a broad range of responsibilities, which include mentoring junior and midlevel electrical and Instrumentation and Control (I&C) staff, interact with clients, manage electrical and I&C related projects, and participate in new business development. In this role, your design delivery responsibilities will include items such as power system modeling, conceptual design development, layout and selection of equipment, development of contract drawings using 2D and 3D design approaches, bid package preparation, field investigations, electrical and I&C design, and support during construction both in the office and the field. We are looking for candidates who have a passion for building things, meeting new people, and desire to work with professionals who excel at water/wastewater design work.
In-person or hybrid (3 days in office/week) work arrangement from our office in Vancouver, BC.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Serve as a project task manager, or perform as lead discipline (electrical and I&C) engineer and Electrical Engineer-of-record on projects as appropriate.
- Scope and budget projects, identify method of project execution, and coordinate staff assignments.
- Successfully manage and execute electrical designs to be on time and on budget using company systems and tools.
- Support business opportunities and assist in sales and marketing efforts (proposal preparation, interviewing, scope, fee, etc.).
- Mentor other electrical and I&C engineers and designers.
- Perform contractor construction submittal reviews and request for information documents and general electrical design activities for water and wastewater treatment plant and pump station power systems. Field and site investigation of project work as required.
- Producing effective and accurate written documents, reports, and technical memorandums.
- Communicate and interface with Clients.
- Collaborate with a national team of technical experts in the Electrical and I&C group.
Minimum Qualifications:
- BS in Electrical Engineering.
- Professional registration (P.Eng.) or the ability to obtain within 6 months.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience as an Electrical Engineer working in the industrial sector.
- Ability to work with Designers in Revit/BIM environment along with AutoCAD.
- Experience and expertise in industrial power systems design and analyses (medium and low voltage systems), including site and facility electrical infrastructure and distribution systems, low and medium-voltage service entrance, feeder and branch circuit cabling and raceways/ductbanks, lighting, grounding, low and medium-voltage emergency power, power generation and distribution equipment, low and medium voltage motor controls, protective relaying, power systems studies for industrial facilities and plants.
- Solid knowledge in the application of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC).
- Solid knowledge and understanding of electrical safety systems.
- Effective oral and written communication.
- Able to multi-task, enthusiastic, self-motivated, and work independently with a willingness to learn.
- Candidate should be a self-starter, results-oriented, and work under tight and pressured deadlines.
- Collaborate with other disciplines and technical teams for design coordination.
- Ability to mentor and guide junior staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 12-15+ years’ experience as an Electrical Engineer working in the industrial sector on water / wastewater projects.
- Supervisory and mentoring experience with Electrical staff.
- Power system software design/modelling experience (SKM, ETAP, EasyPower).
- Knowledge and experience with CSA Z462, IEEE 1584, and IEEE 519 standards.
- NFPA 70 and 70E, NFPA 820 knowledge a plus.
Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.
Salary : $133,000 - $181,000 CAD
