Position Overview:
The Junior Estimator supports by assisting in the preparation of accurate and timely cost estimates for heavy civil, roadway, utility, bridge, asphalt, and site development projects operating throughout New York state and New England. This entry level position is ideal for a detailed-oriented, analytical individual who wants to grow into a full Estimator role within a high-performing construction team.
You’ll partner closely with Estimators, Project Managers, Field Superintendents, and subcontractors to gather data, conduct takeoffs, prepare bid packages, review plans and specifications, and support competitive, complete, and compliant bids for the city, state, DOT, and private sector work.
Key Responsibilities

- Assist Estimators in preparing quantity takeoffs for labor, materials, equipment, trucking, and subcontracted work.
- Support the review of drawings, specifications, addenda, and bid documents to identify scope elements, quantities, and basic risks.
- Compile and organize subcontractor and supplier quotes, ensuring completeness and proper documentation.
- Prepare bid forms, pricing summaries, proposal exhibits, and supporting documentation as directed.
- Maintain estimating logs, bid calendars, vendor lists, and estimate files in accordance with department standards.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site walks, and walkthroughs in a support role to gather field information.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Field Supervisors, Survey, and Equipment teams to collect operational input for estimates.
- Assist with post-bid reviews and cost analyses to support continuous improvement.
- Perform administrative and data entry tasks related to estimating functions.
- Learn estimating software, company procedures, and production methodologies under supervision.
Qualifications & Requirements
- 1-3 years of construction estimating experience, preferably in heavy civil, roadway, or site construction.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred (equivalent experience accepted).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, site plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Proficiency with estimating and takeoff tools (Bluebeam, HCSS, or similar).
- Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid driver’s license with ability to attend job sites and pre-bid walkthroughs across MA and surrounding regions.
