The Director of Information Technology (IT) is responsible for leading the planning, implementation, and management of all technology-related activities within the organization. This role oversees IT operations, application development, innovation and continuous improvements, data management, infrastructure, cybersecurity, systems management, and technical support. The IT Director ensures that technology systems are secure, reliable, efficient, and aligned with the organization’s strategic goals.
Strategic & Operational Leadership
- Collaborate with executive and departmental leaders to identify opportunities for technology to drive efficiency, innovation, and growth.
- Lead digital transformation initiatives to enhance efficiency, automation, and customer experience.
- Develop and execute IT operational plans that support organizational objectives and long-term strategy.
- Translate business requirements into effective technical solutions.
- Design, Implement, and Oversee IT policies, procedures, and standards to ensure consistency and compliance (including development standards).
Team Leadership & Development
- Build and lead a high-performing IT team capable of supporting complex, multi-faceted business needs (manufacturing, financial services, distribution, retail operations).
- Build a culture of accountability, innovation, continuous improvement, and professional development.
- Manage staffing, training, and succession planning for the IT department.
- Promote collaboration across teams and departments.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Stay current with emerging technologies, trends, and best practices.
- Recommend improvements to optimize business processes and user experience.
- Lead digital transformation and automation initiatives.
- In-house application development, integrations with third-party tools and platforms, website management, and developing application development standards for externally sourced projects.
Budget & Resource Management
- Develop and manage the IT budget, including capital expenditures and operating costs.
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) for IT operations and report outcomes to senior leadership.
Infrastructure & Systems Management
- Direct the design, implementation, and maintenance of network systems, servers, storage, and cloud environments.
- Ensure system reliability, performance, data integrity, availability, scalability, and disaster recovery readiness.
- Manage vendor relationships and negotiate technology contracts to optimize cost and performance.
- Lead the selection, deployment, and optimization of enterprise applications and ERP systems.
Cybersecurity & Compliance
- Develop and enforce information security policies and risk management strategies.
- Establish and maintain robust cybersecurity policies and protocols.
- Lead risk management and disaster recovery planning.
Qualifications
- 7–10 years of progressively responsible IT experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Strong background in application development, data management, enterprise systems, infrastructure management, and cybersecurity.
- Strong business acumen and ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to manage cross-functional projects and budgets effectively.
