Position supports a global non-profit dedicated to the advancement of non-animal safety testing approaches for cosmetics and their ingredients. The membership of the organization is multi-stakeholder and includes cosmetic manufacturers, ingredient suppliers, NGOs, and research/trade associations. The organization achieves its mission through research, education, and regulatory engagement.
General Description and Primary Responsibilities:
The Director of Human Health Sciences is primarily responsible for the strategic development, and tactical management, of the human health program that includes scientific capability-build, technical advocacy and science communication activities. The ability to create consensus from various stakeholders and diverse viewpoints is critical for this position.
Position Description:
- Designs and implements strategy for the human health program in partnership with organizational teams and working groups.
- Effectively communicate organization mission and work plan to internal and external stakeholders.
- Develops and implements strategy for collaboration with external research platforms and organizations.
- Ensures strategic alignment between scientific capability-build, regulatory acceptance and education programs.
- Develops new, and maintains existing, relationships with key stakeholders including members, collaborators, regulators, and NGOs.
- Assists in developing and managing Human Health research program budget.
- Oversees or manages program managers, other team members and third-party contractors.
- Contributes to the learning and development of other team members.

Requirements
Qualifications and Skills:
- Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in a relevant scientific discipline such as toxicology, chemistry, pharmacology, or a related field.
- A strong technical understanding of human risk assessment – and application of animal free approaches - is essential for this position.
- Proven experience (5+ years) in scientific program management and/or cosmetics safety testing, or related areas.
- Ability to set and implement strategy at speed and drive process improvement.
- Demonstrated leadership, team management and networking skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate to build a consensus.
- Analytical problem-solving skills with strong organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific information to diverse audiences with impact.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
- Experience of driving multi-stakeholder collaboration to address a scientific and/or policy challenge.
- Strong knowledge of cosmetics safety regulations, guidelines, and industry best practices.
- Work experience with membership or multi-stakeholder organizations.
