What will you do?
As a Mechanical Design Engineer you will design and develop robust mechanics for high precision systems in challenging environments. You will work as part of a team of creative cross-disciplinary engineers to meet project and customer’s requirements and gain exposure to a wide variety of systems from airborne remote sensing to industrial automation and everything in between. At Quartus, you will be involved in the entire project lifecycle from concept and design to build and alignment.
Essential Job Functions
- Create 3D engineering models
- Design and build prototypes, create detailed drawings and instructions for production
- Research and select materials and parts for design elements
- Apply practical knowledge, client design priorities, and applicable codes and standards to specification of materials, fabrication methods, finishes, tolerances, and operation and maintenance requirements
- Apply creativity, experience, and analytical abilities to generate innovative design approaches
- Work closely with program manager and customer on technical requirements.
- Present findings to the project team, company or customer
- Travels to customer sites for meetings or engineering support
Location
Position is based in San Diego CA with a hybrid schedule.

What are we looking for?
- BS and/or MS in Mechanical or similar Engineering field
- Familiarity with, knowledge of, or experience in:
- Mechanical design for precision assemblies in challenging environments
- Design using CAD/CAE software (Solidworks preferred)
- GD&T application per ASME Y14.5M
- Design validation using proper finite element analysis techniques
- Design on electromechanical mechanisms and precision mechanics
- Precision motion control
- Heat transfer and design of thermal management solutions
- Must be a US Person (U.S. Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident)
Compensation and Benefits
Mechanical Design Associate Engineer pay range: $64,693.94 – 105,709.04*
- This pay range represents base pay. In addition, you may be eligible for additional benefits and compensation.
