Position Summary
Conducts property tax reviews for DMA clients and has account management responsibility for assigned clients. Responsible for all aspects of analysis and consulting related to complex personal property compliance projects and assessment reviews of machinery and equipment for industrial manufacturing, mining, oil & gas, communication, and energy property as well as implementation of tax savings recommendations and strategies and leading business development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinates the majority of client management during and after the review process
- Develops and maintains long-term client relationships, with a focus on expanding services and/or cross-selling as appropriate
- Interacts with internal Business Development groups to identify and develop property tax opportunities
- Conducts physical inspections of manufacturing, energy, communication, mining, and oil & gas facilities and meets with on-site management
- Presents findings and makes recommendations to clients
- Communicates with state and local taxing authority personnel to resolve issues via negotiations, appeals, and board hearings as necessary
- Maintains excellent knowledge of all real and personal property tax laws, rules, regulations, and court decisions
- Performs detailed industry and economic research (i.e., research comparable companies, review financial statements) to identify potential tax savings opportunities for clients
- Maintains a general understanding of other DMA service lines for cross-selling purposes
- Proactively researches complex tax issues and conveys this information to the SVS group and regional personnel as needed
- Participates in DMA Tax Community Events, as well as Regional and National Conferences, as a speaker or panel member illustrating expertise to the tax community
- Coordinates and reviews activities of Analysts, Consultants, and/or Tax Managers
Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists Director with National Accounts and other business development professionals in scoping and developing customized solutions for new and prospective clients
- Performs other duties as assigned
Education and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Industrial Engineering, or related field, coursework in Appraisal desired
- Additional credentials or certifications preferred
- 7+ years’ experience in property tax consulting, appraisal, or closely related field
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft office suite, specifically Excel
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to meet travel requirements of the job – up to 40%
- Valid Driver’s License
