ICU/EM Swing/Day shift CVT’s are primarily responsible for tending to the needs and care of hospitalized patients as well as some incoming emergencies. This requires utilization of a high degree of technical skills, triaging, and use of monitoring tools to assess and care for patients with compassion and Fear Free techniques. The ICU nurse maintains continuous communication with veterinarians to ensure that the highest quality patient care is provided. Communication between the day, swing, and night shift is essential.



Requirements

We are currently looking to fill the following position at our North Valley location:


Experienced EMERGENCY Inpatient Care Technician

  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience as a veterinary technician and demonstrated proficiency in veterinary technician duties, particularly in a clinic or hospital setting.
  • CVT strongly preferred

Currently looking to fill the following shift

  • Days Sunday through Wednesday (4-day work week)

Key Responsibilities & Qualifications:

  • Provide care for hospitalized patients, including assessments of respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurological status, as well as recognizing signs of pain and shock.
  • Perform various procedures including fluid therapy, medication administration, enteral feedings, oxygen therapy, basic wound care and CPR.
  • Conduct basic phlebotomy, IV catheterization, dose calculations, and digital radiography. 
  • Familiarity with common drugs, including the safe handling and administration of controlled substances.
  • Proficient in computer input, maintaining logs, and preparing clinic documents.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prepare the clinic for subsequent shifts.
  • Ability to train and mentor assistants and entry level technicians, with a commitment to continual learning and teaching.
  • Excellent client communication abilities for diverse situations like discharges, updates, grief counseling, and coordinating with other departments.
  • Apply Fear Free principles in patient care, recognizing and managing Fear, Anxiety, and Stress (FAS) in animals.
