Job Description-Steel Erection Manager

Classification: Salaried

Report to: SR VP Field Operations

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Commercial Steel Erection Manager to join our dynamic and growing Company. As a key member of our Team, you will play a crucial role in the successful execution of our projects. We are looking for a Leader who is not only proficient in steel erection but can also bring a strong work ethic, reliability and desire for continuous learning and mentorship.

Roles And Responsibilities

  • Manages and administers the fabrication and erection of structural steel for construction projects, meeting the satisfaction of our clients. Oversees all aspects of construction project from award of to substantial completion.
  • Participates in the planning and scheduling of construction projects as related to the Structural Steel trade.
  • Oversees all aspects of management of construction projects; monitors and coordinates work performed with fabrication shop and field crews. (Including, but not limited to properly preparing paperwork for the fabrication shop and field crews, providing contract documentation and communication of changes in a timely manner.)
  • Reviews and interprets designed, architectural, and structural drawings, understanding design intent and directs steel detailers to prepare drawings to shop standards. Ensures shop drawings are in compliance with design intent on the project.
  • Establishes performance and delivery, ensuring that client and company requirements are being met; prepares project schedules, and plans material purchases.
  • Maintains control of documents, drawing revisions, and change orders.
  • Direct work sequencing to expedite project delivery and to maximize efficiency of fabrication shop and field erection crews.
  • Prepares and submits monthly billings to customers for approval and to accounting within the time frame required of the contract documents.
  • Assists accounting department with job costing, schedules of values, review of job costs, work in progress reports, and accounts receivables as needed for cash flow.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Knowledge of structural design and planning principals and procedures
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with engineers, architects, general contractors, and tradespeople.
  • Ability to read schematics and blueprints and/or technical manuals.
  • Knowledge of budgeting cost estimating, and fiscal management principles and procedures
  • Technical knowledge of structural steel and fabrication
  • Skill in the use of computers, specifically Office 365, Fabtrol, and Sage 100 for Contractors. CAD knowledge would be an asset.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and/or supervision to Welders, Ironworkers, and Laborers.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Knowledge of the operating practices of construction, architectural, and building firms.
  • Ability to negotiate and manage contractual arrangements.
  • Knowledge of contract documents and specifications.
  • Knowledge of procurement rules and regulations.
  • Ability to assess contract compliance and product/service quality.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative business environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Skills in workflow analysis and management.
  • Ability to make complex operating, administrative, and procedural decisions.
  • Ability to perform site inspections and/or approve installations.
  • Ability to read structural steel shop drawings.
  • Ability to read Architectural and Structural plans Coordinate shop drawings with in-house engineering department or modeling sub-contractor.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Experience in structural steel projects.
  • Experienced with Construction Scheduling.
  • Solid teamwork background.
  • Planning, directing, and coordinating of Structural Steel Project.
  • Development of Pre-Construction and Erection Schedules.
  • Overseeing the construction workers and their immediate supervisors.
  • Ensuring that the project meets established key milestones.
  • Ensuring that the construction work is completed on schedule in conjunction with Site Superintendent or Field Foreman.
  • Overseeing the delivery of materials, construction tools, and equipmen.t
  • Ensuring that all safety precautions are adhered to by erector.
  • Coordinate Safety inspections with Safety Director.
  • Monitoring the compliance with set regulations and project specs per AISC Development of Schedule of Values from Estimators proposal.
  • Coordinate all document control with project accountants.
  • Oversee overall profitability of project with burn rate tracking and cost tracking via accounting software.
  • Review and negotiate contracts with client and involvement of legal team as required.
  • Schedule kick-off meetings with internal team.
  • Schedule pre-erection kick-off meeting with erectors and safety personnel.
  • Basic Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Ability to successfully coordinate with clients and build long term relationships.

Requirements

  • Ten (10) years of commercial roofing experience
  • PEMB erection experience (preferred)
  • Must be able to discuss experiences level.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record required.
  • Punctuality and consistent attendance
  • Ability to work overtime when necessary.
  • OSHA 30 certificate or must obtain within 60 days of employment.
  • Ability and certifications to operate related construction equipment.
  • Previous experience supervising a small crew of 5 or more employees.
  • Knowledge of metal building panels and roofing required.
  • Ability to work productively with minimal supervision.
  • Must be comfortable with heights, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 50 – 90 lbs
  • Willing to complete all pre-employment background check, physical and drug screens.
  • Authorized to work in the United States
