Phased Array Technician - AUT Specialist Level II (In House)

Summary of Description:

The AUT Specialist Level II will report directly to the Sr. AUT Specialist Level III who will establish clear expectations in terms of work quality, efficiency, and technical development. This position entails working directly with the Manager on technical aspects of the projects and therefore must be able to communicate technical requirements and deliverables clearly and concisely.


Duties:

  • Identify potential damage mechanisms
  • Recommend repairs as appropriate from inspection findings
  • Provide timely feedback of inspection results to the appropriate supervisor
  • Provide oversight, interpretation, auditing, and approval of NDT to be performed
  • Perform volumetric NDE inspections with advanced phased array ultrasonics in accordance to procedures and applicable code (AWS, ASME, etc.)
  • Perform dye penetrant (PT) and magnetic particle (MT) inspection methods
  • Interpret, evaluate, communicate, and report findings to production and engineering
  • Interpret and review engineering drawings as required
  • Support the development of NDE inspection techniques for complex geometries
  • Assist in training and developing others within the team
  • Support research and development into UT/PAUT for operational improvement and optimization
  • Organize, prioritize, and execute a peak workload
  • Comply with all ReCon and client safety procedures that govern the work being performed
  • Travel as needed
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned


Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D) and at least five (5) years of experience in fixed equipment and piping inspection; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.


Licensing Requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • NDE level II certification in line with ASNT-TC-1A certifications and dye penetrant (PT)


Specific Skills:

  • MS Office, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel & Outlook
  • Operational experience of utilizing PAUT systems for inspection of carbon and stainless-steel weldments
  • Knowledge of Zetec UV3/Touch & Olympus Weldsight software
  • Hands on experience using portable digital equipment such as Olympus EPOCH 600 & 650]
  • Knowledge of AMS, AWS/ASME, ASTM etc.
  • Effective communication skills; verbal, written and interpersonal
  • Knowledge of or exposure to Advanced Modalities
  • Knowledge in application and compliance requirements of regulatory codes (OSHA, EPA, etc.)


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk up to one mile on industrial plant and construction sites outdoors at any time of the year.
  • Ability to work in protective clothing which may elevate body temperatures by several degrees Fahrenheit for periods of up to 15 minutes without a break.
  • Ability to use multi-level stair towers and rung ladders unassisted.
  • Ability to hear safety alarms and signals while wearing hearing protection.
  • Ability to sit at desk and operate computer for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to stand, bend, stretch, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk and hear.
  • Ability to see with visual acuity and distinguish between colors.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50lbs. on a regular basis is required.
Requirements

Certifications:

Minimum Qualification PAUT Level II, must acquire the UT (Flaw Detection) Level II

Prefered qualification API QUTE, API QUPA, ASNT ISQ UTSW, ASNT ISQ PAUT, OFD, AUT Corrosion Mapping, AUT Multichannel HIC/SOHIC, and FMC/TFM and Rope Access

Candidate should hold current or be capable of certifying as a MT and PT level II.
