Position Overview
Summary: The Building Maintenance Engineer is responsible for ensuring the operational efficiency of the Davey Corporate Campus and other Kent, Ohio facilities by performing inspections, repairs, maintaining building systems, managing shipping and receiving responsibilities, and coordinating various routine tasks to ensure safety and functionality. The position is in person, at our Kent, Ohio offices.

The Building Maintenance Engineer is a non-exempt, full-time employee position.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions*):
- Maintain, operate, and perform minor adjustments to building systems including the heating and ventilation air conditioning (HVAC) systems, fire alarm and sprinkler systems, generators, access control and security systems, and lighting systems. *
- Perform and coordinate daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and/or annually specific tasks as outlined on the Maintenance Checklist, subject to change as needed. *
- Open and inspect buildings at 6:00 a.m., or as directed, each workday. *
- Remove trash bags from the dock and dispose of them in dumpsters. *
- Maintain recycling bins throughout the office buildings. *
- Keep the front entrances of both buildings clean from leaves, dirt, and debris. *
- Coordinate annual service contracts for building systems, collecting, developing, documenting, and maintaining service records for accuracy and retrieval. *
- Operate and perform routine maintenance of forklifts and scissor lifts. *
- Perform shipping and receiving responsibilities, including loading/unloading boxes, processing orders and coordinating shipments, transferring files and maintaining inventory records. *
- Assist with deliveries for corporate departments, such as the Print Shop, DDC, Marketing, and Communications.
- Assist with the set-up of classrooms and conference spaces.
- Move and rebuild office work areas and office furniture adjustments.
Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions*) Continued::
- Maintain a consistent, onsite schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (40 hours standard) and be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, as needed and for emergencies. *Report timely and accurately to supervisor. *
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and work rules.
Competencies:
- Maintain general working knowledge of Environmental Protectional Agency (EPA) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines.
- Comprehensive understanding of building systems including HVAC systems, fire alarms, sprinkler systems, generators, access control, security systems, and lighting.
- Proactive and organized, including taking the initiative to anticipate upcoming work and looking for tasks that need completion.
- Customer Service: Respond appropriately to requests for service and assistance.
- Safety: Observe and follow safety and security procedures. Report and correct unsafe and potentially unsafe conditions. React appropriately in an emergency situation.
- Ethics: Follows applicable laws and regulations. Upholds organizational ethics and policies.
Education and Experience:
- Required: Associate degree in facilities maintenance, electrical engineering, construction or a related field and two (2) years of building maintenance experience is required, however three to five years of building maintenance experience in a similar position may be used in lieu of degree.
- Required: Ability to complete required safety courses upon hire, including First Aid and CPR.
- Required: Valid Driver’s License.
- Required: Ability to understand and carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
- Required: Advanced problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Required: Intermediate computer skills.
- Required: Read and comprehend building plans and system schematics.
- Required: Good communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of Davey personnel and outside vendors.
- Required: Forklift Certification, Scissor Lift Certification, and other certifications as required by local, state, and federal law.
- Preferred: Electrical and HVAC experience and/or education.
Physical Requirements:
- Exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Stand, walk at, and around the work site.
- Bend, reach, hold, grasp, twist, sort, and organize.
- Balance (when using equipment), pull, and push.
- Observe and judge the distance of objects.
