Position Summary: 

A Tax Department Associate provides support and knowledge related to the internal Tax Department function at KSM.  This includes tax research, issue identification, support with preparing training presentations, and research and writing related to blog posts and white papers; as well as compliance activities focused on preparing tax returns and interacting with clients.  This role also includes a rotation program into the business practice groups during the compliance seasons to gain knowledge related to different areas of tax and industries as well as to provide experience with different types of entities/individuals to further growth and development.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Focus on developing skills and knowledge base in taxation, including research, project work, and compliance.
  • Assist with diversified tax research and compliance.
  • Interact with internal and external clients as needed. This includes working effectively with peers and clients that are remote or hybrid workers. 
  • Become proficient in the relevant tax software tools in order to be a resource to the firm internally.
  • Understand and strengthen basic tax principles across all tax disciplines and industries including individual, partnership, property, international, corporate, estate planning, etc.
  • Develop strong and broad accounting skills.
  • Develop technical writing skills to aid in the preparation of tax memos, IRS notices, and other client communications.

Requirements/Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Masters of Tax, MBA in accounting, or JD is highly encouraged.
