POSITION SUMMARY

The Risk and Insurance Manager is a newly created position at Murray to support the growth and expansion of the company. This new role will be an influential leadership position and is responsible for the development and management of a comprehensive corporate risk management/insurance program with a concentration on risk identification, risk transfer and risk mitigation techniques. The initial focus of this position will be compliance and insurance risk management while working towards an overall corporate risk management strategy. This position reports directly to the CFO and will lead and manage the compliance department while coordinating closely with the human resources, safety, legal, and accounting departments to implement and maintain risk management policies and procedures to protect company's assets and minimize exposure. Primary functions include managing and monitoring compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, and contract requirements, responsibility for all internal and external compliance reporting, and developing compliance talent within the department.


LOCATION: Onsite in Rancho Dominguez, CA; expected move to Cypress, CA Fall 2025


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Compliance / Insurance

  • Develop and oversee compliance department to ensure adherence to all applicable laws, rules and regulations
  • Manage all insurance claims, including property, casualty, auto, workers’ compensation, pollution and professional liability to ensure timely and fair resolution to include those covered by Murray Company’s policies and those covered by policies owned by others
  • Partner with client/owner representatives to ensure proper placement and coordination of project specific insurance/compliance policies
  • Work with legal department to review/negotiate the terms and conditions of insurance and compliance related items in our Client Agreements
  • Manage certified payroll reporting platforms (i.e., LCP Tracker/DIR/OCPS/etc.)
  • Create and implement OFCCP program and procedures
  • Manage day-to-day interaction between all project participants, brokers, and adjusters for all insurance issues
  • Participate in quarterly claim review meetings with Murray Company’s carriers covering status on worker’s comp, auto, GL, and other coverages
  • Participate in annual insurance program renewal process
  • Manage and maintain all Controlled Insurance Program (OCIPs/CCIPs/etc.) related processes, internally and externally, and function as liaison between all participants
  • Manage/support any compliance or insurance audits

Corporate

  • Develop, grow and direct the management of overall corporate risk strategy
  • Conducts risk assessments affecting the company and creates strategies to manage (i.e. disaster events, continuity planning, etc.)
  • Generate, recommend, and implement potential company-wide risk mitigation opportunities.
  • Maintain knowledge of trends in construction risk management and changes in law impacting the company
  • Lead internal communication and education strategies related to risk management initiatives
  • Provides support, education and training to Murray Company staff related to risk management

Safety & Human Resources

  • Partner with safety manager to update, review, and analyze real-time safety data
  • Partner CFO to complete safety reporting requirements and insurance statistics
  • Participate in Subcontractor prequalification process
  • Participate in the handling of employment-law related complaints and claims including wrongful termination, discrimination, etc.


QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, or related field
  • 5+ years of related experience
  • Solid knowledge of core risk management and insurance practices
  • Strong relationship building skills; demonstrated track record working effectively with external vendors/partners
  • Ability to obtain leadership support for change and to drive change across multiple levels
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Preferred

  • Construction industry experience
  • Surety and bond experience
  • Proven leadership and people management experience
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS), Certified Construction Insurance Program (CCIP) or similar certification


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk
  • Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times
  • Ability to traverse stairs and irregular or uneven project site walkways to access jobsite offices
