OVERVIEW:

The primary responsibility of the Commercial Sales Lead is to increase sales of commercial goods and services by maintaining a deep knowledge of the products and working with the Commercial Sales Manager to implement sales strategies to meet sales goals. The Commercial Sales Lead is responsible for directing and supporting all commercial associates, ensuring accuracy, productivity, and efficiency and overall exceptional customer service, making certain staff are consistently available to effectively engage, direct and assist customers. They will focus on the development of strong individual relationships with commercial clients by ensuring courteous and professional customer service, providing advice and education, punctually returning phone calls, and attending to all customer requests. During the winter months, the Commercial Sales Lead will assist in other areas of the retail store.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

TEAM LEADERSHIP

  • Assist the Commercial Manager in managing the weekly Team schedule as written to ensure adequate department coverage.
  • Complete the weekly tasks defined by the Commercial Manager necessary to achieve sales goals and manage the daily operations of the Team.
  • Complete on-going sales training as defined by the Commercial Manager.
  • Takes personal accountability for representing the values and company appropriately in all situations (service, dress code, interpersonal skills).

  • Always ensure excellent (internal and external) customer service, ensuring staff effectively and consistently engage, direct, and assist customers and respond to internal requests promptly and collaboratively.

DAILY OPERATIONS

  • Perform MOD duties as scheduled, including presenting morning meetings, reviewing communication logs, and informing team members of store-wide events/projects/tasks.
  • Perform opening and closing responsibilities for the store such as opening and locking doors, cashing out registers, preparing deposits, counting the safe, entering sales reports, and making deposits.
  • Ensure excellent customer service levels at all times, with a focus on the commercial customer and commercial office, POS experience and ensuring staff effectively and consistently engage, direct and assist customers to best serve their needs.
  • Daily supervision of the commercial sales staff.
  • Assist the Commercial Manager to achieve departmental sales goals and efficient operations.
  • Continually evaluate the effectiveness of the departmental programs and structure and play a role in proposing and implementing improvements when necessary.
  • Responsible for training and supporting a productive, efficient, friendly and effective commercial sales team.
  • Create and effectively communicate ongoing daily work lists for commercial department and peers to maintain optimal levels of productivity.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC TASKS:

Sales / Customer Service

  • Manage large commercial customer accounts and delivery service, including taking phone, email, and in-person orders.
  • Assist with commercial estimates and quotes as well as maintaining the commercial customer base and supporting commercial marketing efforts.
  • Effectively participate in regular meetings and ongoing information flow to the buying team regarding commercial department product needs for on-site inventory, special requests or bids.
  • Coordinate purchasing with the Commercial Manager and Buying Team, scheduling deliveries, coordinating with the Inventory and Operations teams to pull and tag commercial plant material, and ensure its quality until delivery or pickup.
  • Manage the Commercial delivery schedule and give direction to the Commercial Delivery Driver to ensure prompt and accurate service.
  • Ensure effective resolution to all customer service concerns, partnering with Commercial Manager and managers to develop solutions to recurring issues.
  • Assist Cash & Carry customers in locating appropriate products, completing the transaction and loading.
  • Fill roles as GSC expert on POS systems operations related to commercial transactions and AR functions.

Qualifications

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • 3-5 years direct sales/customer service experience in a green goods business required.
  • Advanced horticultural knowledge required- minimum 2 years experience in horticultural industry, formal horticultural degree preferred. Knowledge or horticultural terminology, plant disease & insects required.
  • Ability to read and interpret common scientific and technical information.
  • Experience supervising a team, individualor tasks required.
  • Excellent customer service skills, including: very positive attitude; ability, patience and enthusiasm to research solutions to help solve customer problems or answer questions.
  • Ability to stay organized, focused and calm in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to use Internet search engine, email, Microsoft Word and Excel required.
  • Must be available to work weekends.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to occasionally lift 40 lbs. and regularly lift 20 lbs.
  • This position requires regular shifts of 8 hours or longer standing on hard surfaces with regular lifting and significant physical activity including bending, lifting, pruning, working above the shoulders and below the knees.
  • This position requires significant work outside in adverse weather conditions including heat, cold, wet weather.
