An Insurance Manager at Al. Neyer plays a pivotal role in ensuring the overall protection of the organization. This role is responsible for managing the day-to-day insurance needs of the organization including our construction, real estate development, design, capital, and corporate needs for all regional markets and projects. Focus will be on understanding the current insurance needs of the organization and planning for continued growth and complexity. Our goal is to avoid claims, however, managing internal and external claims is a key component of this position. Additionally, ensuring solid risk transfer and appropriate insurance compliance is in place for all companies who perform work or provide service to the organization is critical to the success of our ESOP-driven mission.

Essential Job Functions

  • Manage day-to-day insurance needs of a fast-growing commercial real estate development and design-build company
    • Analyze and understand insurable risks to ensure appropriate insurance coverage.
    • Manage master Builders Risk and Property Portfolio program across all markets
    • Place project specific liability, builders risk and/or property policies as needed
    • Participate in the annual renewal of corporate insurance program
    • Facilitate insurance coverage reviews and documentation required for commercial real estate closings
    • Collaborate with internal team & carriers to manage General Liability and Worker’s Compensation audit process
    • Lead certificate reviews related to insurance requirements
    • Assist in budgeting for insurance costs to meet the needs of the organization
    • Maintain detailed internal insurance document management processes
    • Establish relationships with brokers, insurance carriers, and third parties related to insurance program
  • Claim Management
    • Manage insurance claims including reporting and communication with internal & external stakeholders, brokers, insurers, and attorneys.
    • Collaborate with Safety Manager and project teams in accident and incident reporting.
  • Insurance Compliance Program Management
    • Manage Certificate of Insurance (“COI”) process to assure subcontractor, vendor and tenant insurance compliance
    • Communicate with internal teams and external vendors, brokers and service providers for subcontractor insurance compliance
    • Provide education on company’s standard insurance requirements as needed
    • Lead review and decision-making process on subcontractor insurance coverage issues
    • Assist accounting department in resolving insurance compliance related error reports.
    • Responsible for tracking KPIs related to third party COI management system
    • Regular reporting for insurance, claims, incidents, insurance compliance, corporate surety obligations and KPI metrics
    • Cultivate relationships within the construction insurance industry, in order to stay abreast of insurance products, issues, and pricing.
    • Additional duties related to insurance, risk management and safety as assigned.

    We have identified key performance indicators, which may evolve, that inform the performance of the Insurance Manager and the department, and which promote our data-driven focus approach to achieving success.

    • Insurance Compliance % for contractors prior to performing work on-site
    • Insurance Compliance % for contractors while performing work on-site
    • Timely review of documents metrics


    Qualifications and Experience:

    • At least 5 years of insurance experience with a focus in the Design-Build Commercial Construction, Commercial Real Estate, and/or Commercial Property Development industry
    • Obtained at least one of the following insurance designations: CIC, CRM, CRIS, ARM, CPCU or equivalent experience and education
    • Experience in managing large property, casualty and professional liability insurance claims
    • Experience in Contractor Controlled Insurance Programs
    • Able to meet deadlines, work well under pressure and take initiative using sound judgment
    • Excellent organizational and follow-up skills
    • High level of attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to prioritize are a must
    • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, and the ability to adeptly use and learn various computer software systems related to the job
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and a passion for working in a team environment, willing to help others and comfortable with sharing work assignments
    • Ability to handle a variety of tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
    • Comfortable with managing third party service providers and communicating with vendors, brokers, and others outside the organization


    Who is the AL. Neyer Risk Management and Insurance Team?

    Our team of 3 + regular co-op support is led by the Director of Enterprise Risk. The Risk Management team includes Risk Management, Insurance and Safety and is a subgroup of the Legal Department led by our SVP & General Counsel. We practice our core values daily by taking ownership in all that we do, digging the details, building trusting relationships with our co-employee owners and external stakeholders, and providing superior service to all. We run to win and stop to celebrate with our regional Cincy team at regular Friday after work gatherings.

    Physical Demands & Environmental Requirements

    Low physical effort required to sit, stand at files, bend, stoop, lift, and walk. Maximum unassisted lift is 35 lbs. Average lift is less than 10 lbs. Requires ability to use a keyboard and monitor. Also requires the ability to communicate verbally, both in person and on the telephone. May require some travel by car or air.

    Average inside office environment. Average office noise levels. No personal protective equipment is required. Ambient temperature is between 68F and 76F.
