Project Engineer II

SUMMARY: The Project Engineer - Service is responsible for providing high level technical estimating and project management support to Service Managers and Baker’s Customers. With direction from the Operations Manager and Service Managers, the Project Engineer must collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful progression of estimates and projects. This is an exempt position.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Partner with Service Managers to support estimating and project coordination efforts.
  • Communicate directly with customers to assess scope of work, schedule, and evaluate resources necessary to successfully complete a project.
  • Provide internal Project Management / Engineering coordination on projects.
  • Leverage technical skillset to develop and apply world class electrical solutions.
  • Review and evaluate project plans and specifications, bid documents, and other relevant project documents.
  • Assist in the pricing of T&M tickets and requests for quotes.
  • Solicit subcontractors, and material/equipment quotes from company approved vendors.
  • Coordinate with Field personnel and Tier-Subcontractor Representatives to ensure scheduling milestones are being met.
  • Review all Requests for Information (RFIs), check these to the project drawings and specifications (single line diagrams and electrical drawings), and submit as necessary.
  • Review internal, supplier and subcontractor submittals or shop drawings for conformance to project documents and manage the submittal process ensuring project deadlines are adhered to.
  • Assist in the identification and implementation of value-engineering and pre-fabrication opportunities if applicable for larger Service Projects.

Key 30, 60, 90 Day Accomplishments

  • 30 Days: Gain basic understanding of the Service workflow and process while contributing to the success of the team through completion of assigned tasks.
  • 60 Days: Be able to work independently to develop Service Estimates and Proposals with an understanding of the basic workflow and estimate approval / review process and workflow. Continue to further your understanding of workflow and processes all while continuing to contribute to the success of the team through completion of assigned tasks.
  • 90 Days: Achieve sufficient understanding of customer needs and internal processes in order to contribute ideas, actions and workflow suggestions that may benefit Baker Electric in a growing portion of our industry and business model. Be able to work both as directed and autonomously.

Experience, Education

  • 1-2 years of electrical Project Engineer and/or combined electrical estimating experience or field experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related degree or successful graduation of an electrical training program
  • Proficiency in MS Office / O365 applications
  • Familiarity with project management and estimating software
  • Proven ability to understand and analyze electrical terminology, drawings, theory, etc. is preferred
  • Proven ability to communicate with clients in a professional manner both in-person and remotely
