Technician III (Network Administrator)

Summary of Description:

The Technician will work under the supervision of an assigned specific discipline and based on experience the individual evaluates, selects, and applies standard applicable techniques. Could include discipline work of purchasing, expediting, NDT Inspection, project controls, surveying, laser scanning, schedulers, planner, construction inspectors, project coordinators, automation, controls, etc.


Duties:

  • Assists assigned supervisor in various aspects of projects assigned. 
  • Applying standard discipline techniques to make minor adaptations and modifications.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.


Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) with additional specialized training, or college course work, and at least eleven (11) years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.


License Requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s License as per State law or requirement


Specific Skills:

  • Detailed working knowledge of Policies and Procedures related to project work.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk up to one mile on industrial plant and construction sites outdoors at any time of the year. 
  • Ability to work in protective clothing which may elevate body temperatures by several degrees Fahrenheit for periods of up to 15 minutes without a break.
  • Ability to use multi-level stair towers and rung ladders unassisted.
  • Ability to hear safety alarms and signals while wearing hearing protection. 
  • Ability to sit at desk and operate computer for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk and hear.
  • Ability to see with visual acuity and distinguish between colors.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift and carry 15 lbs. on a regular basis is required and at times lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required.

Responsibilities : 

• Supports day-to-day network operations, participates in network and related IT projects, and participates in the troubleshooting and resolution of network outage emergencies, issues or other urgent situations.

• Implements, manages, supports, and secures scalable enterprise networks to meet business needs. 

• Customizes and administers enterprise network management tools. 

• Adheres to policies and process for IT governance for Change Management, Configuration Management, Access Management, Asset Management, and Incident and Request Management. 

• Configures and supports network switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless devices. 

• Monitors the network for uptime, utilization, latency, and overall performance and availability. 

• Monitors the network for network behavior anomalies and configures logging and alerting functions. 

• Secures network device configurations and performs vulnerability remediation. 

• Maintains technical diagrams, presentations and other networking documentation. 

• Communicates effectively with team members, IT peers, and internal business unit customers. 

• Coordinates with managed service providers and vendors as required. 

• Collaborates well with colleagues to implement solutions. 

• Ensures the uptime, performance, resource availability, and security of the networks managed within operational guidelines. 

• Collaborates on IT projects to ensure that network issues are addressed throughout the project life cycle. 

• Executes daily network operational processes to support the site environment, including following established and routine operating procedures and completing tickets and other checklist activities for recurring network operations. 


Qualifications: 

• The ability to communicate clearly with network staff, build trusting relationships at all levels and across all business units and organizations, and understand business imperatives. 

• Knowledge of and experience in documenting network architecture and plans. 

• 5+ years IT operations experience including troubleshooting networks, wireless, routing, etc. 

• Advanced capabilities with Cisco network infrastructure including routers, switches, firewalls, and associated protocols. • Intermediate level knowledge and experience with routing protocols (BGP, EIGRP, RIP and OSPF); switching function (spanning tree, link aggregation/ VPC’s, SPANs), network services (NAT/load balancing, Auth-DOT1x), and configuration of VPNs and DMVPNs. 

• Intermediate level knowledge supporting networks for real-time applications and protocols, including voice and video as well as the associated QOS protecting those services. 

• Experience supporting networks in a highly segmented environment. 

• Cisco CCNA certification or equivalent experience.
