Heavy Equipment Operator Apprenticeship The KE&G Apprenticeship Program for Operators is a 3-year program consisting of 6,000 hours ofon-the-job training (OJT), as well as 432 hours of related instructional training (RIT). In each of thethree years, apprentices will complete 2,000 hours of designated OJT, which is field work, and 144 hours of RIT in a classroom setting. Throughout this process apprentices will be formally trained on a variety of equipment and taught the proper procedures for operating safely.
