QC Laboratory Technician (Technician I)

Summary of Description:

The Technician will work under the supervision of an assigned specific design and based on experience the individual evaluates, selects, and applies standard applicable techniques. Could include discipline work of purchasing, expediting, NDT Inspection, project controls, surveying, laser scanning, schedulers, planner, construction inspectors, project coordinators, automation, controls, etc.


Duties:

  • Assists assigned supervisor in various aspects of projects assigned.
  • Applying standard discipline techniques to make minor adaptations and modifications.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.


Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) with additional specialized training, or college course work, and 0-5 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.


License Requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s License as per State law or requirement


Specific Skills:

  • Detailed working knowledge of Policies and Procedures related to project work.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk up to one mile on industrial plant and construction sites outdoors at any time of the year.
  • Ability to work in protective clothing which may elevate body temperatures by several degrees Fahrenheit for periods of up to 15 minutes without a break.
  • Ability to use multi-level stair towers and rung ladders unassisted.
  • Ability to hear safety alarms and signals while wearing hearing protection.
  • Ability to sit at desk and operate computer for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk and hear.
  • Ability to see with visual acuity and distinguish between colors.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift and carry 15 lbs. on a regular basis is required and at times lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • May include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Work rotating shift (12-hr)/ one Technician per shift.
  • Follow standard routine and nonroutine laboratory procedures and test methods.
  • Recording of all test results, sample identification, sample identification, and other necessary information to ensure that quality records are maintained.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment and report problems and/or problem areas to supervision.
  • Perform standards and control sample testing as required to ensure proper operations of testing equipment.
  • Obtain and analyze environmental samples as needed to meet environmental standards.
  • Conducts timely checks and performs minor maintenance and/or adjustments and repairs.
  • Use statistical techniques when appropriate.
  • May monitor cylinder gas pressure each shift and change out cylinders as necessary.
  • Evaluate and recommend changes to help improve test procedures or other lab policies.
  • Anticipate and report inventory needs of consumable supplies prior to depletion.
  • Perform duties as a first responder.
  • Utilize spare time to clean, straighten, and maintain QC Lab and lab equipment and perform other related duties as necessary.


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Successful candidates must satisfy background screening, including motor vehicle record screening, drug testing & pre-employment physical requirements before starting work.
  • A valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card is required.
  • College degree preferred but not necessary. High School diploma minimal education requirement.
