CAD Specialists with Chief Architect Experience

The CAD Designer is responsible for assisting the Sales/Designer in working with a client and developing a design. The Designer efficiently coordinates material and product selection, schematics, and CAD drawings. The CAD Designer coordinates with all involved parties (Client, Sales/Designer, Consultants, Estimator/Specifiers, and Production) to provide all information required for buildable designs. CAD Designer produces Design revenue by working efficiently, thereby maximizing billable hours. This position has flexibility with supporting Design or CAD in many ways elaborated below.

Experience/Requirements:

Has a degree in Interior Design, Architecture or equivalent in Architectural Drafting and minimum 4 years’ experience in Residential design/Construction.

Possesses computer proficiency and demonstrated skill in using software such as Chief Architect, or AutoCad CAD programs, experience with drawings required for residential remodeling, and a working knowledge of building codes. Has current experience with drawings required for residential remodeling, and a working knowledge of building codes. Has current product knowledge in cabinetry (made to order and custom), lighting, fixtures, finishes (such as tile, stone, solid surfacing, and laminates), appliances, and flooring. Is able to produce working drawings, schematic plans, sketches, and notes, or efficiently transfers project information to the CAD department. Ideally, is credentialed Certified Kitchen Designer (CKD), Certified Bath Designer (CBD), Certified Interior Designer (CID), or has professional membership in American Society of Interior Designers (ASID).

Attire:

Professional: Dress shirt, slacks, skirt or suit (no t-shirts, shorts or blue jeans except on casual Fridays). Good grooming and personal hygiene. Following Harrell Dress Code Policy.

Hours:

Full-time position. Needs to be available Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. The position is fully onsite.

Job Duties:

  • Meet with Sales/Designer at client’s home to understand scope of work.
  • Gather information for the project: complete the site survey forms, take photos, take field measurements, research codes and restrictions.
  • Assist Designer, or Senior Designer to develop two or three design choices, so client is not overwhelmed by design process, and for cost effectiveness.
  • Develop renderings throughout the process to assist client and Harrell team in visualizing their project.
  • Meet with clients to finalize selection of custom materials, finish materials, fixtures, and appliances.
  • Produce, redline or oversee production of drawings within Harrell CAD standards with the CAD Specialist to ensure that they are appropriate for each stage of design development (schematic design, design development, permit drawings and production set).
  • Verify the drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) standards.
  • Develop drawings that are “buildable” (building code compliant and structurally feasible) in conjunction with consultants and Sales/Designer.
  • Incorporate notes, revisions or additional drawings as needed by estimating department, production, or city of permit submittal.
  • Meet with Sales/Designer, and clients to finalize selection of custom materials, finish materials, fixtures, and appliances.
  • Meet at the project site with Estimator/Specifiers and key Trade Specialists to transfer project information to them, as required.
  • Coordinate with the estimating department to assure consistency between drawings and specifications.
  • With the assistance from Sales/Designers, Estimators, maintain and organize technical files, and update samples quarterly.
  • Participate in weekly Sales meetings and attend quarterly All-Staff meetings.
  • Ensure that all timesheets, reimbursable expenses, and company-wide performance reviews are submitted to the office within the established time frames.
  • Participate in marketing events as requested by the Sales Manager.
  • As a representative for Harrell, act in a professional manner.
  • Some CAD Designers have a strong focus of support to the Sales Team. They support in many ways throughout the process, some of these include:
  • Showroom Operations and display
  • Permit coordination and feasibility
  • Employee Owners may occasionally be asked to perform work on special assignments in addition to normal job duties.
