Novaspect, Inc., an Emerson Impact Partner, the global leader of automation systems and solutions, is offering aninternship opportunity for a Software Engineer Intern in the Industry 4.0 and related Industrial Automation space. Novaspect is an Emerson Impact Partner with a long history of developing process automation and reliability solutions for major industrial manufacturers in the upper Midwest. We are seeking an individual to help us to expand our IIoT/IoT Data Solutions capabilities. 

We are looking for a candidate excited to work with existing and emerging data integration and data visualization technologies. The Software Engineer Intern is a customer-facing individual capable of deploying real time Data-centric solutions that span both the Operations Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT) space, bringing valuable solutions to end users in multiple segments of the Industrial marketplace along with the HVAC/Institutional industry. The successful candidate would assist our current and future customers with the development, delivery, optimization, training and maintenance of real time Data solutions while also supporting complementary automation, data analytics, and workflow solutions relating to a customer’s overall Digital Transformation strategy.

The scope of solutions are centered with Emerson’s Plantweb Optics Data Lake along with complementary 3rd Party Data Management, Data Historian, and Data Visualization platforms. Responsibilities also include integrating and managing data from DCS/PLC, MES, Manufacturing Operations Management (MOM), Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and ERP, moving data from these and other on premises and off premises platforms, making it available for the broader customer organization.

Software Engineer Intern Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work with our customers to:
• Build a trusted relationship by applying your own unique passion and candor
• Understand their goals and obstacles being faced
• Serve as solution architect for IoT Data applications delivered at the edge, on premises, off premises, and via XaaS
• Gather information to scope Data Management and Visualization solutions that best meet their needs and goals
• Design and implement Data Management and Visualization applications
• Perform testing of Data Management and Visualization applications being prepared for deployment
• Provide applicable training for relevant personas/users
• Provide an ongoing communication channel to ensure customer expectations are well understood
• Manage customer expectations so there is a clear understanding of technological capabilities and limitations
• Work to grow Novaspect
• Maintain awareness of evolving IoT industry standards & trends and share with team members
• Develop new opportunities and enhancements to existing systems and deliverables
• Work as a team
• Provide system troubleshooting and resolve problems individually or by utilizing your internal resources
• Help colleagues as they encounter situations they are not as familiar with
• Work independently and as part of a team supporting a customer
• Work as a team with internal and external sales to sell solutions
• Provide clear and frequent communications
• Perform necessary troubleshooting remotely
• Create in-depth and professional engineering proposals and reports
• Author whitepapers on engineering subjects
• Converse with other industry experts about technical concepts
• Deliver presentations to external and internal customers
• Articulate and communicate engineering and solutions to both engineers and non-engineers

Software Engineer Intern Education and/or Experience:                                                  

• Knowledge and experience with programming languages
• Knowledge and experience with data integration and messaging protocols (REST API, MQTT, OPC-UA, XML, JSON, etc.)
• Knowledge and experience integrating within AWS, MS Azure, Google, and/or other similar Cloud platforms 
• Knowledge and experience applying enterprise security best practices and policies
• Standard IT knowledge of VLAN, network configurations, NAT, MPLS, VPN, WAN, etc.
• Pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent
• Knowledge and experience with PowerBI, Tableau, and similar visualization platforms desirable

Software Engineer Intern Additional Requirements:

• Own and maintain an individual learning and development plan
• Participate in continuous learning (latest technologies)

Software Engineer Intern Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 30lbs
• Ability to work extended hours on a computer
