JOB SUMMARY:
The Quality Assurance Assistant provides support to the Cookie Plant and Cookie QA department by completing and reviewing documentation, maintaining proficiency as a Quality Technician and completing the associated duties as needed, and completing other administrative duties as assigned by the Cookie Quality Assurance Manager. This position requires commitment to gaining a thorough understanding of all plant policies and procedures with a high level of attention to detail. This position will be required to fill in for Quality Technicians as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Exercise the authority to place any questionable product, packaging, or ingredients on “Hold” status and communicate to management
- Review all incoming COAs and associated receiving paperwork for compliance to supplier and internal specifications and communicate deviations to manager, purchasing, warehouse, etc. as needed
- Maintain weekly inventory of all lab supplies and replenishes supplies as needed
- Responsible for completing internal and coordinating external calibrations of facility equipment and managing the log
- Identify and accurately report defective materials, food safety hazards, and potential product contaminants
- Review production paperwork to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures
- Issue paperwork/procedural violations to employees as needed and maintain and track violation records
- Inventory facility documentation and maintain supplies
- Conduct environmental testing according to schedule and maintain Environmental Monitoring Program including scheduling and results
- Collect ingredient samples as required and verify results against supplier and internal specifications
- Responsible for 3rd party sample submissions for ingredients, finished goods, and environmental testing including completion and filing of corresponding paperwork
- Conduct internal audits of the facility and off-site warehouse as assigned
- Able to perform all functions of the Quality Technician position and to fill in as a Quality Tech as needed on any shift
- Able to cover responsibilities of Quality Assurance Specialist as needed
- Assist with food safety and quality related tasks and investigations as they occur
- Assist with audit preparation
- Assist with R&D projects as needed
- Coach all new and current employees on quality and food safety issues
- Assist with Food Safey and Quality Training of newly hired employees
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor

- Involves regular computer systems/software operation and use of office equipment
- Understand and adhere to:
- all food safety and quality protocol
- all procedures pertaining to allergen control
- all Good Manufacturing Policies (GMPs)
- Must have full use of arms and legs, be able to stand on a continuous basis, and be able to climb stairs to access all areas of the plant and offices regularly
- Lift up to 50 lbs. on an occasional basis
- Push or pull with up to 50lbs. of force on an occasional basis
- Stoop, kneel, climb or squat on an occasional basis
- Possess manual dexterity and use hands to grip, pinch, handle, reach, or feel on a frequent basis
- Stand on a continuous basis and walk on a frequent basis
- Able to perform repetitive tasks up to 12 hours per day
- Must be able to work in a scissor lift at elevated heights occasionally
- Must be able to work shifts as assigned by supervisor
- Adherence to the company attendance policy is required, which includes expectations of punctuality and limited unapproved absences
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of the following computer software: Microsoft Office, including Excel
- Knowledge of HACCP, GMP, Bio-security and other food safety programs preferred
- Experience in Quality Assurance preferred
- Candidate needs strong knowledge of facility manufacturing operations, procedures, and product quality expectations
- Must have demonstrated good work habits and attendance
