Summary of Description:

Develop and oversee the engineering and design efforts for construction drawings / packages for projects.


Duties:

  • Assist in the definition of project work scopes for engineering requirements, including package deliverable requirements.
  • Assist with Process Safety Management/Process Hazard Analysis
  • Concisely describing the project requirements by means of engineering sketches and verbal instructions to the design staff. Presenting this work to the design personnel in an organized form suitable for design by the available personnel.
  • Coordinating and organizing work with other disciplines. Maintaining good working relationships between disciplines.
  • Checking drawing packages for completeness and accuracy.
  • Performing calculations required for their discipline. The ability to check calculations of other engineers for completeness, code compliance and accuracy.
  • Equipment Specifications and Vendor interaction.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.


Education and Experience

Bachelor of Science Degree in a related technical field from an accredited university with at least five (5) years of experience in petrochemical, chemical, offshore, pipeline or utility industries; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.


License Requirements:

Valid Driver’s License as per State law or requirement

Professional Engineer Intern with professional registration preferred


Specific Skills:

Knowledge of discipline design codes and other industry standard discipline related regulatory codes expected.

AutoCAD knowledge with 2 years minimum experience preferred.

Process Safety Management/Process Hazard Analysis

Proficient in Microsoft Office and Outlook or similar software with preference on spreadsheets, data base and word processing.

Familiar with discipline specific compute applications (i.e., ETAP, STAAD, CEASAR, etc.)


Physical Requirements:

Ability to walk up to one mile on industrial plant and construction sites outdoors at any time of the year. 

Ability to work in protective clothing which may elevate body temperatures by several degrees Fahrenheit for periods of up to 15 minutes without a break.

Ability to use multi-level stair towers and rung ladders unassisted.

Ability to hear safety alarms and signals while wearing hearing protection. 

Ability to sit at desk and operate computer for extended periods of time.

Ability to stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk and hear.

Ability to see with visual acuity and distinguish between colors.

Ability to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid driver’s license.

Ability to lift and carry 15 lbs. on a regular basis is required and at times lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required.

ReCon is currently hiring for Project Engineers with 5-10 years of experience with a BS in Engineering in the Orange, Texas area. 


  

  • The Project Engineer position requires at least a BS degree in mechanical, chemical, electrical, industrial or petroleum.
  • Qualified candidates must be familiar with computers and a variety of computer software. The position requires knowledge of budget development, cost analysis, and SAP skills. Leadership skills and flexibility in daily work are necessary. The ability to communicate with other groups as well as oral and written skillfulness is essential. Since all projects have to be reflected under business plans perspectives, knowledge of project management is required. The incumbent should possess planning and organizational skills, good interpersonal and motivational capability and should be objective/goal oriented.
  • Lead-direct, facilitate and implement–capital project efforts for the Orange Site. Coordinate activities of all necessary departments as well as outside contractor services as required to accomplish objectives.
  • Communicate to Management new proposals, evaluations, and progress/status of current activities. Report on status of assigned projects.
  • Work with the unit Engineering, HSEQ and Global Technology in the design packages–includes P&ID mark-ups, equipment sizing, specification of construction materials, equipment and instrument specification, determination of utilities and power requirements.
  • Support the project prioritization and selection process for the Process and Utilities Units.
  • The Project Engineer is responsible for the Engineering and Construction of assigned projects. This involves disciplines like safety, environmental, electrical, instrumentation, civil, structural, mechanical, and piping.
  • Work in close coordination with the Contractor Services group for proper execution and cost control of engineering and construction. Ensure allocation of appropriate contract resources to projects.
  • Perform all activities with the objective to guarantee safety of the personnel involved. Design systems and process changes with safe and reliable operation as a primary goal. Incorporate safety into the design of equipment and systems from the conceptual design phase to improve results.

  • Help determining best project assignments by using specific strengths and capabilities of engineering disciplines, e.g. for more process oriented, electrically oriented, or mechanically oriented projects. Actively support decision making for project and job assignments.
  • Coordinate Project Engineering services during the execution of capital projects. Satisfy the capital program ensuring quality cost effectiveness, schedule compliance, and safety. Ensure all installations are developed with maintenance and operability in mind. Participate with the project sponsor to generate conceptual details and/or to review existing design concepts to check the validity of the data and the feasibility of the proposal.
