Position Summary
The Senior Tax Manager conducts Canada Sales Tax (GST/HST/QST/PST) reviews for DMA clients and provides other Federal and Provincial tax consulting services. Participates in business development efforts and has account management responsibility for assigned clients.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Reviews client records for Canada sales tax refund potential, credits, deficiency assessments, and procedural recommendations
- Prepares written reports supporting DMA’s position for Federal/Provincial taxing authorities; reviews and submits periodic status reports to clients; prepares Letters of Findings for clients
- Works with Federal/Provincial tax officials to achieve maximum tax savings
- Participates in business development efforts
- Responsible for client account management on assigned clients
- Updates work-in-process reports
- Represents clients during audits and in hearings with Federal/Provincial taxing authorities
- Conducts on-site inspection of client plants and operations
- Manages, coordinates, and reviews activities of team members
- Maintains excellent knowledge of Federal/Provincial tax laws, regulations, and court decisions
- Researches complex tax issues
- Assist business development team in scoping and developing customized solutions for new and prospective clients
Education and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field required
- CPA (CGA, CMA, CA) designation preferred
- 7-10 years’ professional experience preferably in accounting or tax
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Experience with Canadian Indirect Tax (GST/HST/QST/PST) preferably
- Experience researching tax questions and issues
- Demonstrated problem solving skills; intermediate verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and maintain exceptional attention to detail
- Travel as required (between 25-50%, approximately)
