Our Opportunity
George P. Johnson is seeking a "Floorplan / Architectural Engineer" who can take design concepts and create floorplan layout drawing sets in our Smyrna, TN facility. We are looking for fine-detail-minded AutoCAD users who can visually communicate how our client's events will be laid out, considering how people will flow through the space and facility-specific rules and regulations.
In this role, you are responsible for developing various types of 2D CAD drawings, such as overall floorplan drawings, electrical layout drawings, element location drawings, and any other show-specific drawings needed to ensure the successful installation of our client's event.
This role is required to be on-site at our Smyrna office location 5 days/week.
You’ll be successful if you can:
- Work from sketches and/or input from the various project team members.
- Work well with others since drawings require input and approval from various departments and teams to complete the final approved drawings used for events. Being a “team player” is a must.
- Produce expected drawings quickly, efficiently, and as error-free as possible. The Engineering Manager should thoroughly check drawings before submission for any type of approval.
- Aggressively seek resolution from either the department head or other team members to prevent delays in the release of drawings.
- Creatively solve problems – displays often push the envelope and require solutions to problems with no precedent.
- Calmly deal with numerous changes or corrections to drawings.
Who You Are
Methodical: Floor planning / Architectural Engineering requires a methodical approach to problem solving and the production of drawings.
Thorough and meticulous: The quality of the drawings will be affected by how thoroughly and carefully they are produced and checked.
A good communicator: Not a presenter per se, but willing to leave their seat and talk with other team members to obtain needed information.
Creative: Yes, creative! Creativity is needed for problem solving and laying out a multi-page set of drawings that reads like a book, not a random collection of drawings.
Flexible and Adaptable: You will do whatever it takes to complete the job! You understand that during some times of the year, you may be required to work long hours and weekends as dictated by client deliverables; Ability to work extended hours during the peak season, which is approximately Labor Day through Easter. Strong perseverance is needed to push through the very tough work schedule.
What You’ll Need
- 2-5 years of recent full-time use of AutoCAD in a work environment similar to our business, such as Architectural experience or another exhibit house. Note: A strong portfolio may offset a lack of experience.
- Strong skills in 2D and experience in 3D AutoCAD modeling are a must.
- Grand scale/spatial recognition and understanding of how people interact with architecture.
- Experience with Inventor or a similar parametric modeling tool is a plus but not required.
- Experience with 3D Printing is a plus but not required.
- A degree is not required for this position but is always a plus. Architectural degrees or AutoCAD drafting certifications are the most relevant.
