Position Summary
The Director participates in the DMA business process from business development to service delivery, reporting and client satisfaction. The Director is responsible for the provision of property tax services to DMA’s clients including managing processes and personnel in the operation’s performance of assessment reviews for DMA clients, to achieve maximum tax savings. In addition, the Director researches and maintains knowledge of tax and assessment laws to successfully represent clients at assessment review board hearings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Reviews client records for Property tax refund potential, credits, deficiency assessments, and procedural recommendations
- Prepares written reports supporting DMA’s position for assessment and taxing authorities; reviews and submits periodic status reports to clients; prepares Letters of Findings for clients
- Responsible for client account management on assigned clients
- Updates work-in-process reports
- Conducts on-site inspection of client plants and operations.
- Provide leadership, direction, and guidance to coach, motivate, and lead team members to their optimum performance levels and career development
- Maintains knowledge of Property tax laws, regulations, and court decisions
- Represents clients during negotiations and in hearings with assessment and taxing authorities
- Works with assessment and taxing officials to achieve maximum tax savings
- Active participation in business development activities - including identifying, scoping and developing customized solutions for new and prospective clients, as well as meeting with potential prospects; ability to communicate DMA’s other service lines to prospects
- Assist Director Practice Development and other business development professionals in scoping and developing customized solutions for new and prospective clients
- Participate in the talent acquisition process for the team to add top talent
- Ensures the operation’s adoption of, and adherence to, best practices and client service principles; for themselves and team members
- Participate in production/revenue forecasting, financial modeling, strategic planning and budgeting as requested
- Assist in growing office, region, and division from a market-share and financial perspective
- Participation in DMA & Industry tax community events and other forums as a public speaker, panelist or other representative of the company to create marketplace awareness and facilitate educational opportunities to our clients and prospects
Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Education and Qualifications
- College certificate in real property assessment or university degree in real estate, economics, or related field
- 10+ years’ prior experience in property assessment valuation methodologies (including manual costing, income approach and comparative sales analysis), with specific experience in commercial/industrial properties
- Thorough understanding of the Assessment Act, Municipal Act and Assessment Review Board’s rules of practice and procedure
- AACI designation or AIMA/MIMA designation preferred or equivalent appraisal experience desired
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proven ability to direct and manage staff
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrated problem-solving
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize projects and deadlines
- Some overnight travel required
- Valid driver’s license
