What we are looking for
SCS is looking for a Construction Safety Specialist whose duties will include championing safety, identifying and correcting hazardous conditions and behaviors, auditing safety programs and policies, conducting safety training, and working with staff to facilitate the resolution of any issues. This individual may be designated as a “competent person” for various safety-related programs, and will be responsible for providing safety direction and ensuring adherence to all safety regulations and programs through coaching, training, visibility, and gaining the trust of workers to build a culture of personal awareness and accountability. This position will start with training at one of our other sites and then be based at our site in Christian, Mississippi. You will travel to other sites after this project is over. This position is a full-time position at a construction site that’s location will vary across the country. You will report to a specific job site and perform their duties up to 60 hours a week. If working remotely, at the company's expense, the candidate can travel home for one weekend a month with two travel days. You will be working in varied weather conditions and will operate general site vehicles and equipment, such as pickup trucks, and smaller equipment.
How you can make an impact
- Conduct site inspections to identify potential OSHA and safety hazards.
- Conduct worker safety training and present safety information to employees and management.
- Assist to inspect machinery and safety gear to ensure their proper operation and worker's protection.
- Maintain and actively foster participation in the Site-Specific Health and Safety Program.
- Investigate injuries, illnesses and incidents; implement emergency procedures
- Assist in the review/development of safety programs and training materials.
- Provide oversight for contractor adherence to health and safety plan.
- Oversee the installation of safety devices and protective equipment.
- Provide daily/weekly safety-related observations, audits, daily safety meetings/tailgate details.
- Review and approve daily pre-task plans from sub-contractors.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years of experience as a full-time safety professional in the heavy construction industry, process safety management or landfill gas required.
- Board of Certified Safety Professional (BCSP) certification of either CHST, OHST, STSC, SMS, ASP, or CSP, is required.
- OSHA 30-hour certification in the last 3 years and HAZWOPER certification preferred.
- Must be available to work overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays if necessary.
- Must have a valid license and a driving record in good standing due to travel.
Pay Range
USD $75,000.00 - USD $90,000.00 /Yr.
