A shop hourly position with the primary responsibilities of operating in the PVC Weld and Fan build area with also being trained in Pipefac area. As an experienced mechanic, the Mechanic I has a high level of proficiency in machine setup, operation, and calibration and is competent to work independently in the majority of functions. The Mechanic II model’s BAC’s values of Earning Trust, Embracing Responsibility, Showing Courage, and Driving Innovation to co-workers and provide training to junior mechanics as assigned. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Owns personal and team safety. Observes all safety rules and always uses the proper safety equipment.
- Help assist and train junior mechanics.
- Operate the horizontal band saw with full knowledge of safety procedures.
- Update and post metrics as assigned.
- Train junior mechanics of the team and guide their work performance.
- Provide leadership to the team in the absence of the Shift Lead and/or Team Leader.
- Understand departmental metrics and communicate / interpret for junior mechanics.
- Accurately complete paperwork or online data entry required by department.
- Document processes for knowledge capture and the training of junior mechanics.
- Maintains and sustain 5S standards in the department.
- Participate in continuous improvement activities and projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned by plant leadership.
- Contribute to departmental safety improvements.
- Interpret parts and terms on the tickets and channel completed products to staging area for next operation.
- Build fans for assembly and aftermarket team for part orders.
- Make sure fans are aligned before sending to the lines to be installed.
- Fabricate pipe for Assembly and Part Order Departments.
- Deliver materials to the departments on time.
- Ensure individual activities embrace sustainability, reduce the impact on the environment, minimize waste, maximize recycling, minimize energy and water usage.
- Support a culture of innovation through original thinking to improve processes, methods, systems or services; translates new ideas into business opportunities.
NATURE & SCOPE
Reports to Supervisor, Station Leader or senior mechanic as assigned. Work is primarily related to home department, but may be flexed to other departments as order demand dictates. Provides hands on leadership and mentoring to junior mechanics as well as be prepared to fulfill department leadership roles as needed. As a senior mechanic, expertise may be requested to participate on regional project teams. Expectation is to operate as an influencer and subject matter expert
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Advanced knowledge inventory/WIP replenishment methodologies (i.e. Production Order, Kan/Ban, Min/Max).
- Demonstrated competent writing skills including the ability to document a process in a logical and coherent manner. Ability to communicate to supervisors and co-workers with written memos or email that are professional, concise and clearly understood.
- Demonstrated oral communication skills including the ability to communicate professionally with BAC customer and co-workers. The ability to share information verbally that is clearly understood and technically accurate.
- Can demonstrate the ability to align Fans and read a level.
- Ability to use hand tools such as standard wrenches, torque wrenches and adjustable wrenches.
- Good overall knowledge of the variety of BAC products
- Ability to operate Horizontal Band Saw knowing the machines capabilities, safety devices, hazard points, and operating limits.
- Must be flexible and able to adapt quickly to change.
- Proper use of adhesives and correct technique to make structurally sound chemical bonds
- Continuously grow skills and expertise in order to flex to the maximum number of workstations
- Meet or exceed production goals for shift.
- Knowledgeable of and meets quality standards on a consistent basis.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and blueprints.
- Competent in math including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractional computations, and fraction to decimal conversions.
- Ability to use handheld measuring tools including tape measure, micrometer, and protractor.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement tools and ability to support root cause analysis for identified quality issues.
- Good product knowledge of BAC’s numerous models and parts.
- Computer competency with MS Excel including updating data and generating metrics in pre-formatted spreadsheets.
- Can access PPD files and pull up different prints.
- Demonstrated flexibility to work at multiple department work stations and adapt to change.
- Familiar with and able to operate correctly and efficiently all assigned equipment in this department, including, but not limited to:
- Steel cutting band saw
- Abrasive cut saw
- PVC Drill
- Chop Saw
- Bender and threaders
- Good understanding of Lean and Continuous Improvement.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The working environment includes lifting up to 50lbs. Standing is to be expected up to 80% of the time. Additional activities include: walking, reaching, bending, stooping, and sitting. Fine hand manipulation of controls is needed as well as hand eye coordination to perform changes. Exposures include elevated noise levels associated with a manufacturing environment, fluctuations in temperature ambient conditions as well as intermittent exposure to the weather in and about the yard and dock areas. Working hours can include any of three shifts and generally are scheduled for forty hours a week. Some weekend overtime is to be expected. Working temperatures include both wide fluctuations within the plant as well as ambient outside temperatures.
