Overview:

The Superintendent works with the preplanning and project management teams to ensure maximum productivity and successful completion of assigned projects. The Superintendent engages in the preplanning process, mentors/trains field personnel, and offers technical assistance. The Superintendent helps to ensure maximum total company profitability and customer satisfaction. The Superintendent ensures that all duties of this position and those of team members reporting to this position are carried out in compliance with Alterman’s stated mission, vision, values, safety standards, and company policies and procedures.

Essential Functions:

Project Planning: 70%

Works with the Installation and Planning Manager, project foreman, and Project Manager to establish the Labor Analysis Workflow (LAW) for the job.
Selects the General Foreman to lead the job with the Project Manager and Workforce team with input from Workforce and senior management.
Reviews the scope of the job with the Foreman and determine workforce and specialty craftsmanship needs (ex: fire alarms, controls, medium voltage, etc.)
Reviews the project schedule with the foreman at the start of the job and on a weekly basis for the duration of the project.
Ensures that all possible resources, such as Packaged Alterman Construction Kits (PACK) and Prefabrication, are used to increase productivity on a project.
Coordinates the development of the Tools, Materials, Information, and Flow (TMIF) process with a focus on continuous improvement utilizing the PDCA (plan, do, check, act) feedback loop.
Participates in project announcement meetings, as well as project review meetings.
Meets regularly with the division senior management to ensure compliance with the division goals and expectations.

Project Duration: 30%

Assists with loading the workforce at the correct time and labor rate throughout the job.
Assists with requests for information (RFI) to obtain all necessary information to keep the project on schedule.
Visits jobsites to monitor productivity and ensure that the schedule is adhered to. Offers suggestions for improvement as needed.
Reviews the LAW and labor rate on a weekly basis.
Performs quality control and ensures that the electrical work adheres to Alterman standards.
Monitors the labor rate and works to stay under the projected composite labor rate for the project overall.
Ensures workforce follows all safety procedures/policies.
Responds to jobsite issues and assists in their resolution.
Assists with unloading of the workforce at the end of projects.
Meets regularly with project management to review workforce requirements, project schedule, cost tracking trends, and field leadership development.

Workforce Management: 25%

Mentors and coaches Alterman field employees while focusing on education, encouragement, and empowerment (3E’s).
Maintains records of Foreman and General Foreman to assign to jobs.
Identifies potential foreman candidates and assigns them to a foreman who will foster their development.
Identifies candidates for Leadership Training Program (LTP).
Participates in regularly scheduled workforce coordination meetings.
Collaborates with Labor Coordinators to recruit and retain employees.
Participates in annual performance review meetings for field supervisors.

Performs other duties as assigned: 10%

Education and Experience:

Inside Wireman Apprenticeship Completion or similar/equivalent.
5+ years of field leadership experience in the electrical construction industry required.
OSHA-30 Certification and Safety and Health Specialist Certification required.
Lean Six Sigma Certification may be required.

Skills/Abilities:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
Proficient with or able to learn Microsoft Office Suite, or other related software.
Able to read and interpret all plans, specifications, and requirements.
Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
Must understand and maintain a working knowledge of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and National Electric Code.
Able to complete continuous education courses and trainings as required.

Work Environment:

Office environment with frequent travel to jobsites required.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to use hands or fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; must be able to reach with hands and arms. Manual dexterity associated with computer data entry required.
Must be able to talk and hear.
Must be able to frequently sit.
Must be able to occasionally stand, walk, climb, balance, crouch or crawl, stoop, and kneel.
