We are seeking an experienced Construction Inspector to join our team and oversee various phases of infrastructure projects in the Greater St. Louis Metro Area. This position offers the flexibility to report to one of our three main offices in the region: Belleville, IL, Edwardsville, IL, or St. Louis, MO. The ideal candidate will have experience working closely with contractors in Illinois/or Missouri on infrastructure projects, including roads, bridges, waterlines, and sewers, to ensure construction meets established standards and specifications. In this role, you will monitor all phases of construction, conduct tests such as concrete and soil compaction, and verify compliance with project specifications. Additionally, you will interpret construction plans, perform calculations, and maintain accurate records to support the success of the project.

Key Responsibilities: - Works closely with contractors in monitoring of all phases of construction.
- Establishes a working relationship with project owners and keeps them informed of all significant project issues.
- Supervises other construction inspectors assigned to the project.
- Inspects construction work on roads, bridges, structures, culverts, waterlines, sanitary sewers, and/or other infrastructure for conformity to construction standards.
- Performs yield, air, and slump testing of concrete; performs beam and cylinders tests, compaction and moisture testing of aggregates and soils, and sampling of bituminous hot mix asphalt at plants, quarries, and construction sites to check for conformity with specifications.
- Performs level circuits for as-built plans, settlement monitoring, and verification of planned elevations; computes cross sections of construction sites, utilizing a level and rod.
- Performs quantity calculations and record keeping of duties.
- Reads and interprets schematics and construction plans.
- Collects, codes, analyzes, and maintains a variety of test data and inspection records.
- Some travel may be required, including occasional overnight stays, and while work during nights or weekends is rare, it may be necessary to meet the demands of specific projects.
Preferred Qualifications:- 4+ years of relevant experience with an associate’s degree in civil engineering, construction management or a related field; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education.
- IDOT Construction Documentation Certification or the willingness and ability to obtain it upon hire.
- Strong technical decision-making skills.
- Familiarity with state (IL/MO) and federal regulations for construction related to road, bridge, sewer, or other relevant infrastructure projects.
- Proficiency in inspection and surveying practices.
- Thorough understanding of quality requirements for construction materials.
- Strong understanding of mathematics, trigonometry, and geometry.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
- Proficient in documenting and analyzing test results.
- Skilled in using testing, surveying, and inspection equipment.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to apply regulations and standards to ensure compliance with construction standards and material specifications.
