The Role
Harris Group is seeking an Associate Chemical/Process Engineer to join our Life Sciences group in Thousand Oaks, CA. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer to build hands-on experience on complex, meaningful projects in the biotech industry.
In this role, you will provide professional engineering expertise to industrial projects that positively impact both the community and the environment. You’ll work on innovative designs for industrial facilities and contribute to diverse projects through development, detailed design, and construction support with a focus on life sciences (biopharmaceutical), laboratory HVAC and piping systems, and industrial manufacturing.
The ideal candidate brings an entrepreneurial mindset and genuine passion for chemical and process engineering someone who takes ownership of their work, communicates proactively with teammates, and is eager to grow in a multi-discipline environment.
The Responsibilities
- Serve as a technical resource on designs and advance engineering theories, concepts, principles, and processes
- Show a strong drive to work independently, manage project tasks, and meet deadlines with a proactive approach to communicating progress with your team.
- Perform mechanical and process design, collaborating with the mechanical staff and coordinating with other disciplines
- Prepare design calculations and documentation that support the project design basis
- Prepare mechanical drawings through the use of designers or drafters, and develop specifications
- Coordinate design with vendor-supplied equipment
- Prepare equipment layouts and general arrangements
The Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering; up to 2 years of relevant experience preferred (new graduates welcome to apply)
- Working knowledge of mechanical engineering techniques commonly used in industrial capital projects
- Familiarity with process system design and equipment including pumps, fans, heat exchangers, cooling towers, boilers, chillers, conveyors, and air handlers
- Ability to identify, interpret, and apply relevant codes and standards to engineering designs
- Proficient with MS Office suite
- Experience with AutoCAD, CADWorx, or Revit is a plus
- Knowledge of Caesar or Autopipe pipe stress software is a plus
- Knowledge of PIPE-FLO preferred
- This role is based on-site at our Thousand Oaks, CA location; daily on-site presence is expected
