Position Summary
The Senior Tax Consultant leads and supports Canadian Sales Tax engagements, including GST/HST, QST, and PST overpayment reviews, audit support, and refund filings. This role requires advanced analytical skills, tax knowledge, and client service capabilities. The consultant works independently and collaboratively to deliver high-quality results, manage client relationships, and contribute to business development efforts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop review plans and conduct tax research for Canadian indirect tax engagements.
Analyze client data to reconcile reported tax, verify control totals, and assess audit samples.
Review documentation including invoices, purchase orders, tax returns, and audit reports.
Prepare schedules and enter tax exemption data into internal systems.
Draft refund requests for submission to provincial authorities or inclusion in tax returns.
Negotiate with federal and provincial auditors during refund processing and appeals.
Prepare client updates and reports summarizing findings and recommendations.
Support administrative tasks such as WIP maintenance, job costing, and forecasting.
Identify and analyze potential opportunities with prospective clients.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field required.
CPA designation (CGA, CMA, CA) preferred.
4–5 years of professional experience in Canadian Sales Tax or Canadian indirect tax; 1+ years of experience in a mentoring role preferred
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, etc.) and analytical tools preferred.
Strong problem-solving skills and effective verbal and written communication.
Proven initiative and adaptability in dynamic client environments.
High attention to detail in documentation and data validation.
·Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Work Enviornment & Physical Requirements
The salary range for this position is $70,500 – $85,000, depending on qualifications, experience, and skills.
