CEI Inspector

S&ME is hiring full-time CEI Inspectors to join our Construction Engineering & Inspection (CEI) team in Western North Carolina. This role is ideal for inspectors looking to enhance their CEI career playing a key role in important transportation projects. You'll have the flexibility to live within an hour of the project site and access to a company vehicle to commute directly to project sites.
About The Role:
As a CEI Inspector, you will play a key role in overseeing, administering, and inspecting transportation projects, including roadways, bridges, railways, pedestrian pathways, ports, and aviation facilities. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that contractors meet all contract requirements, plans, and specifications. This position involves both indoor and outdoor work, exposing you to diverse weather conditions and field environments. Flexibility is essential, as extended hours, including weekends and holidays, may be required.
- Monitor contractor activities, including earthmoving, paving, bridge construction, and traffic control. Ensure all work adheres to project plans and permits.
- Keep thorough records by preparing daily diaries, material reports, and field books for contractor payments. Your documentation will be crucial for project success.
- Conduct materials sampling, verify line and grade with survey equipment, and perform key calculations to ensure accurate construction processes.
- Perform DBE and EEO compliance surveys and verify that erosion control devices meet all environmental and permit requirements.
- Attend meetings, interact with third-party construction teams, and report to higher-level technical staff for project reviews.
Pay rate is based on the level of experience. Additional incentives are available for existing applicable certifications.
About You:
- You have ONE of the following:
- High school diploma/GED required and 4+ years of highway-related construction or inspection (CEI) experience
- 2-year technical degree or higher in Civil Engineering Technology or Surveying Technology with 2+ years of highway-related construction experience
- You have at least TWO of the following NCDOT-based certifications:
- NCDOT QMS Roadway Certification
- NCDOT Conventional Density Certification
- NCDOT Concrete Field Technician Certification
- NCDOT Erosion Control Level II
- NCDOT Nuclear Gauge Certification
- You have strong communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
- You have good math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
