Position Overview:
The Real Estate Accounting Manager oversees the accounting operations for a portfolio of properties, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with accounting principles. The manager is responsible for supervising a team of accountants, preparing financial statements, managing budgets, overseeing reconciliations, and utilizing MRI real estate software for all accounting tasks. This position requires strong leadership, attention to detail, and in-depth knowledge of real estate accounting practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Supervise and mentor a team of accountants, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback.
Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements for assigned properties.
Manage month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring all journal entries are completed and reconciliations are accurate.
Prepare, review, and analyze property budgets, forecasts, and operating statements.
Ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements in all accounting functions.
Perform and oversee property-level reconciliations, including cash, bank, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger.
Manage and review lease accounting, tenant billings, operating expense escalations, and CAM reconciliations.
Utilize MRI software to enter and manage financial data, generate reports, and support accounting functions.
Prepare and manage property tax filings, sales tax, and owner distributions.
Review and approve accounts payable and accounts receivable batches, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Coordinate with property managers to ensure accurate and consistent reporting and adherence to company policies.
Support annual audits and tax filings by providing required documentation and analysis.
Monitor cash flow and ensure that sufficient funds are available for property expenses.
Assist with the development and implementation of accounting policies, procedures, and controls.
Maintain and manage financial records, ensuring they are organized and compliant with internal and external audit requirements.
Perform ad-hoc reporting and special projects as needed.
