POSITION PURPOSE
The Fin Press Mechanical Tech safely sets up, operates, troubleshoots, and maintains mechanical and hydraulic presses used to manufacture metal components to engineering, production, and quality specifications. Key responsibilities include die changeovers, coil and feed-system setup, machine adjustments, quality inspections, troubleshooting, and basic preventive maintenance.
The Fin Press Mechanical Tech supports safe, efficient production by minimizing downtime, maintaining product quality, and following established safety and operating standards. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, blueprint-reading ability, familiarity with press controls and automation, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Working knowledge of mechanical and hydraulic presses, metal stamping processes, dies, and coil-fed equipment.
- Ability to safely set up, operate, adjust, and monitor presses and related equipment.
- Knowledge of die installation, alignment, securing, and changeover procedures.
- Ability to load, thread, align, and adjust coil stock, feeders, straighteners, and line controls.
- Understanding of press controls, automation, die protection sensors, tonnage, stroke, air pressure, and related operating parameters.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints, technical drawings, work instructions, tolerances, and manufacturing specifications.
- Proficiency with precision measuring equipment, including calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
- Ability to perform first-piece and in-process inspections and identify nonconforming product.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills for press, die, material, feeding, and process issues.
- Knowledge of basic preventive maintenance, including equipment inspection, cleaning, and lubrication.
- Understanding of machine guarding, lockout/tagout (LOTO), PPE, and safe material-handling practices.
- Basic computer skills for machine controls, production reporting, and manufacturing systems.
- Ability to safely use approved material-handling equipment, including overhead cranes, forklifts, and electric carts, as required.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Press Setup & Operation: Set up, operate, and monitor mechanical and hydraulic presses in accordance with engineering drawings, work instructions, production schedules, and quality standards. Die Setup & Changeovers: Safely install, remove, align, and secure dies using approved material-handling equipment. Verify proper setup before operation.
- Material & Feed Setup: Load and thread coil stock; adjust feeders, straighteners, feed lengths, sensors, and line controls to maintain proper material flow.
- Machine Adjustments: Set and adjust press stroke, speed, tonnage, air pressure, shut height, feed settings, die protection, and other operating parameters to meet specifications.
- Quality Control: Perform first-piece and in-process inspections using precision measuring equipment to verify dimensions, tolerances, and product requirements.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and correct press, tooling, material, feeding, sensor, and process issues. Escalate concerns to Maintenance, Tooling, Quality, or Production leadership when necessary to minimize downtime.
- Equipment Care: Perform routine inspections, cleaning, lubrication, and basic preventive maintenance. Report abnormal conditions, wear, leaks, damage, or potential equipment failures.
- Safety & Compliance: Follow all safety procedures, machine-guarding requirements, LOTO practices, PPE requirements, and safe material-handling procedures. Report unsafe conditions promptly.
- Production Performance: Meet production expectations while minimizing scrap, rework, waste, downtime, and changeover time.
- Documentation: Accurately complete required production, inspection, setup, downtime, scrap, and rework documentation.
- Workplace Organization: Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in accordance with housekeeping and 5S standards.
- Teamwork & Continuous Improvement: Communicate effectively across functions and participate in problem-solving and improvement activities related to safety, quality, productivity, equipment reliability, and process efficiency.

NATURE & SCOPE
The Fin Press Mechanical Tech works in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and exercises technical judgment in press setup, die changeovers, machine adjustments, troubleshooting, and quality verification. The role works closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Tooling, and Material Handling to maintain safe, reliable equipment operation and consistent production performance.
The technician is expected to identify and respond to equipment, tooling, material, process, and quality abnormalities within established procedures and escalate issues when additional technical support is required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Standing is to be expected up to 80% of the time. Additional activities include walking, reaching, bending, stooping, and sitting. Fine hand manipulation of controls is needed as well as hand eye coordination to perform changes. Working hours can include any of three shifts and generally are scheduled for forty hours a week. Some weekend overtime is to be expected. Working temperatures include both wide fluctuations within the plant as well as ambient outside temperatures.
