Position Summary
Position is responsible for assisting senior construction staff with the inspection of civil construction projects such as underground piping installations, gravity sewer installation, force main installations, site utility installations, public utility installation or pump stations in accordance with approved construction and engineering specifications.
Position Responsibilities
• Complete a training program with senior construction staff on how to perform field inspections of the construction and maintenance of water distribution systems and sewer collection facilities.
• Assist senior construction staff with management of construction projects, including tracking quantities, reviewing pay requests and material submittals and complete quality assurance review of data received.
• Attend construction meetings with clients and contractors. Prepare agenda and minutes under the direction of senior construction staff.
• Upon completion of training program, perform field inspections of the construction and maintenance of water distribution systems and sewer collection facilities. Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications and related codes and standards. Conduct and document observations of construction. Ensure installed work conforms to design documents, approved submittals, regional standards, local codes and best construction practices. Identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents. Communicate deficiencies to proper persons.
• Utilize testing procedures, inspection protocols, construction inspection techniques and perform QA/QC functions. Ability to interpret and/or recognize possible conflicts with other underground facilities or utilities.
• Ability to communicate and coordinate with construction contractors, construction trades, municipal and private property owners in a cooperative, productive manner while serving the best interest of the client. Also interface with project manager and engineers, as well as state and local government officials. Communicate and enforce construction quality standards
• Maintain quality control files and document results of all inspections.
• Perform all functions of the position in a safe and conscientious manner, with constant regard for the safety of fellow employees and the general public. Follows company environmental, health and safety policies. Wears and works in proper personal protective equipment.
• Compiles information and prepares construction reports and reviews as-built drawings as required. Assists in obtaining, preparing and maintaining reports, maps, charts or records related to the construction.
• Assist the field staff with inspection of underground utilities as directed by the field manager.
• Performs other related functions assigned or as they become apparent or as management assigns.
Essential Skills & Expertise
• Bachelors in Construction Management or related from an accredited institution or an Associates Degree and at least two years of construction experience with construction inspections of municipalities or infrastructure projects in place of the Bachelors degree
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
• Considerable skill needed in reading and interpreting construction drawings, plans, specifications and contract documents; in applying material testing procedures
• Ability to prepare, organize and maintain inspection field and office data, reports and systems
• Some knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices and methods as applicable to a water and wastewater facility setting; working knowledge of applicable laws, standards and regulations relating to construction, inspection and safety; considerable knowledge of inspection methods
• Broad knowledge of water distribution and wastewater collection systems and their construction, maintenance, testing and disinfection; working knowledge of engineering drawings, cut sheets and stake outs
• Proficient with MS Office products and email.
• Ability to use iOS tablet for field reports.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Valid driver’s license with excellent driving record is required
