CEI Inspector

S&ME is looking for a motivated and passionate CEI Inspector to join our Construction Engineering & Inspection (CEI) team in Western North Carolina. Are you ready to bring your expertise to impactful transportation projects? Join us at S&ME!
As a CEI Inspector, you will play a critical role in ensuring contractors meet project specifications while working on high-profile infrastructure projects such as roadways, bridges, and aviation facilities. You'll enjoy the flexibility of living within an hour of your project site and benefit from a company-provided vehicle for direct commutes.
Your Day-to-Day:
- Oversee Contractor Activities: Monitor earthmoving, paving, bridge construction, and traffic control operations to ensure adherence to plans and permits.
- Ensure Compliance: Conduct environmental and regulatory checks, including DBE, EEO, and erosion control compliance surveys.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed daily records, including contractor diaries, material reports, and field books essential for project success.
- Field Operations: Perform material sampling, use survey equipment for line and grade verification, and complete construction-related calculations.
- Team Collaboration: Attend project meetings and work closely with contractors, project teams, and technical staff.
What You Bring:
- A High School Diploma/GED with 4+ years of highway-related construction or inspection experience OR a 2-year technical degree (or higher) in Civil Engineering Technology or Surveying Technology with 2+ years of relevant experience.
- At Least Two Certifications such as NCDOT QMS Roadway, Conventional Density, Concrete Field Technician, Erosion Control Level II, or Nuclear Gauge Certification.
- Strong Communication Skills: Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- A Solid Math Foundation: Understanding of units of measure, volume, and pressure is essential.
- (Preferred) Experience with NCDOT transportation projects or equivalent.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
You are willing and able to perform this role while using company-provided PPE, including:
- Working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Walking over uneven terrain and standing for long periods (up to 12 hours/day).
- Regularly lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. (field samples and equipment).
- Maneuvering field equipment on active construction sites.
