The Oracle Database Administrator will advance the capabilities of the Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO) by providing database sustainment, configuration, and security support for Oracle-based servers on operational systems.NAVOCEANO is located at NASA’s Stennis Space Center, and all tasking is performed on-site.
Required Experience:
- Active SECRET Clearance with T3 investigation
- IAT/IAM II certification (such as Security+)
- B.S. in Computer Science or related IT degree
- Experience with Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS)
- Administration of Oracle Database Management System (DBMS)
- Administration of PostgreSQL (RDBMS)
- Experience with Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) compliant Services
- Experience with Oracle Spatial Engine
- Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux
Job Duties:
- Sustainment, configuration, and security of Oracle DBMS
- Cybersecurity Support
- Quarterly, during each STIG cycle release by DISA, evaluate cybersecurity compliance of the Oracle DBMS software against the most recent DISA STIG and create updated security checklists.
- Implement cyber security requirements due to CTO, directives or DISA STIG updates.
- Maintain a system administration guide with details on how to remediate each STIG item and step-by-step directions on manual implementation details for those STIG items that must be implemented manually.
- Assist with analysis, development and implementation of enhanced security integrations.
- Create and/or modify scripts and documentation supporting STIG compliance.
- Sustainment of automated cybersecurity compliance evaluation scripts for ORACLE DBMS on RHEL 8.X servers.
- Sustainment of configuration scripts.
- Onsite integration of automation scripts to quickly analyze software and produce STIG checklists quarterly.
- Software Upgrade Support
- Analyze upgrade strategies, document, and recommend solution(s) to the Government for required software upgrades.
- Analyze and create plan to migrate existing Oracle databases and data to new Oracle DBMS hardware.
- Perform Software Upgrades for Oracle DBMS software on Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
- Assist with migrating existing Oracle database and data to newer Oracle DBMS software versions on newer Red Hat Enterprise Linux Operating systems.
- Create and/or modify scripts and documentation for chosen upgrade solution(s).
- Provide periodic demonstrations to the Government on upgrade status and configuration, user management and other functionalities necessary for sustainment, along with fully documented configuration, security and implementation details.
- Maintenance Support
- Provide software support for installation and testing of Oracle DBMS vendor patches, including installation and configuration of the Oracle patch utility and Oracle Java.
- Answers assigned user trouble tickets for password resets, schema modifications and other user-related issues. Works with the N642 Database sub-team to analyze, document and implement user-requested changes via the N642 CCB Process.
- Works with software projects that utilize the Oracle DBMS to:
- Document and map data structures, entities, and attributes to user application software and web services.
- Create SOPs for database connectivity for software projects that utilized the Oracle DBMS.
- Write and correct problems with user SQL statements to query and/or load data into the Oracle DBMS, as needed.
- Provide technical and functional support for new efforts or data hosting capabilities from NAVOCEANO production codes.
- Provide support for the maintenance of geospatial gateways to the Oracle DBMS, such as Oracle Spatial Engine.
- Sustain documentation for all aspects of current Oracle DBMS architecture. The Government will provide templates. Examples include:
- Approved Users and all other documents required by DISA STIG
- Applications supported and points of contact
- Service Accounts and owners
- Installation details
- Configuration Details
- Database Design Document
- Smoke Test Document
- Research Oracle DBMS technologies to ensure the correct information is being gathered and presented and that technologies are configured to log necessary information for analysis.
- Sustain capabilities to move log files and perform log auditing to meet DISA STIG requirements, as needed.
- Sustain monitoring solutions for the Oracle DBMS using existing infrastructure at NAVOCEANO, such as Xymon.
- Analyze, recommend and implement improvements to Oracle DBMS management techniques using existing management tools on the NAVOCEANO network.
- Analyze, recommend and implement improvements to the current Oracle DBMS backup solution. Refine and document the backup process. Design, implement, test and document backup and restore capabilities for the Oracle DBMS.
- Create and modify scripts to perform system administration tasks such as real-time monitoring of operational systems.
