Amsted Rail has an immediate opening for a Spring Manufacturing Engineering Co-Op/Intern at its Granite City, IL location.

Amsted Rail provides engineered systems that combine castings, bearings, wheels, axles, braking and energy management devices for the freight rail industry. Amsted Rail enjoys a significant share of the freight rail undercarriage market and is part of Amsted Industries. Amsted has some 11,000 employees in 48 plants with 30 in the United States and 18 internationally.

Description:

The Industrial Engineering Co-op will work for the Transit Rail Department. They will work closely with Design Engineering, Quality and Production to deliver and support automated systems from initial design/prototype through development, build, install and ultimately hand over to operations.

The daily work will be split between “boots on the ground” on the manufacturing floor and office for design work. Working with cross-functional teams throughout the entire lifecycle of the product and processes. Ongoing continuous improvement of production functionality is a vital part of the role.

Qualifications:

Pursuing a BS degree in Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering
Able to work close to 20 hours per week during school and full-time during summer

Preferred:

AutoCAD & 3D modeling experience
Lean manufacturing principles
5S methodology
Engineering problem solving skills

Personal Characteristics:

Must have the ability to work with people.
Must be a team player with willingness to freely exchange ideas and relate well with others
Appetite for solving problems and creating solutions through software programming
Hands-on background with a mechanical aptitude
Willing to assume responsibility for accuracy and quality of work assigned
Possess good organizational skills
Self-motivated to work in a rapidly changing priority environment
Detail oriented
