Overview
Our UX team lives in the intersection of how our service transforms the lives of our users. The ideal UX Manager is focused on developing, maturing, and refining designers & researchers as they hone their crafts and create excellent experiences for our customers. This means developing Design, Usability and Research disciplines that enable the UX team to deliver a consistent, coherent, and excellent experience. Critically, it also means caring well for the members of the UX team as people, and connecting them together into an effective and healthy team.
The Job
The UX Manager works alongside the UX Team and the Product Manager to prioritize user-centered improvements to the service within the Product Roadmap.
The UX Manager will empower and facilitate the UX team in determining and delivering excellent experiences across a broad set of customer touch points:
- Four native monitoring clients (iOS, Android, Windows and Mac).
- The Victory App (educational content and embedded reporting) on iOS, Android and the web.
- The Home Page.
- The Signup Process on Web & in-app.
Success in these activities requires an empowered and autonomous team of UX professionals able to adapt to changing conditions. The job of the UX Manager involves training and deploying the structure and processes that enable a distributed team to function seamlessly. The UX Manager is responsible for ensuring the UX team delivers high quality, consistent, and timely design and research that allows us to deliver a transformative service for our users.
The core of the UX Manager is for the people. The UX Manager hires, trains, develops, and motivates designers and researchers towards craftsmanship and discipline. The UX Manager builds a healthy team out of empowered and healthy individuals.
Responsibilities
- Builds a team of designers and researchers who are respected and trusted, who have balanced work expectations, and who are encouraged to grow.
Fosters a collaborative environment, realizing the benefit of diverse perspectives requires a supportive environment where people are encouraged and comfortable working on the same project, sharing their work and listening to feedback, making the final output better than anyone would deliver on their own.
Oversees the gathering of requirements from users and stakeholders, and works with the Product Manager to determine scope and timing of upcoming work.
Leads the UX team in creation of new features based on the results from product strategy, user research, and usability testing.
Develops the environment for designers and researchers to succeed in cross-functional teams, building strong relationships with product management and strategy, marketing and technology.
Works regularly with other managers and leaders in technology, marketing and member care to build stronger patterns of work and cross-functional processes for project teams.
Ensures the the UX team’s delivery of high quality experiences for our users with consistency and coherency.
The UX Manager follows ethical UX practices.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in User Experience Design, Human-Centered Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design Fine Arts, Design, Design Research or related field, or equivalent experience.
Minimum ten years of experience working in a Design or User Experience field with a portfolio to demonstrate your experience.
Proven experience leading a UX team of Designers and Researchers in a primarily remote environment.
Successful contributions to multiple shipped products, solving for a variety of user needs in different problem spaces or platforms.
Has a history working with multiple designers who ship quality work in appropriate timelines.
Distinguished in one or more core UX skills, and Proficient in two or more skills:
UX Research, UX Writing, Service Design, Information Architecture, Interaction Design, Information Design, Interface Design, Visual Design.
Proficient in Human Skills:
Proficient in Leadership Skills:
Empathy, Planning, Strategic Thinking, Facilitation, Mentoring, Versatility.
Fluent with industry tools like Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Sketch, and similar software.
Experience working within agile and lean methodologies and tools such as GitHub, Trello, or Jira.
If a remote employee, you are willing and able to travel to Global Headquarters in Owosso, MI several times a year. Due to this, you must maintain a current, valid driver’s license and personal automobile insurance. For on-site employees, no long-distance travel is required.
The majority of your time will be spent at a desk using a phone, computer and monitor, and general office equipment. You may be required to reach with hands and arms; sit; stand; talk and hear; use your hands to finger, handle, or feel.
