ABOUT THE ROLE
Amsted Automotive Group, Transform Products in Saginaw, MI, is seeking a Machine Repair Journeyman. This role is responsible for maintaining and repairing production machinery and equipment and ensuring operational efficiency. This role will involve both reactive repairs for machine downtime as well as proactive maintenance tasks to prevent future issues. This is currently a third shift position, potential for other shifts based on business demands.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Machine Installation & Maintenance: Install, troubleshoot, and maintain a wide range of production machinery and equipment. Perform both emergency repairs and routine preventative maintenance.
- General Facilities Maintenance: Conduct routine maintenance and repair of facilities, including but not limited to plumbing, carpentry, and basic building upkeep.
- Mechanical, Electrical, and Hydraulic Maintenance: Utilize mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic skills to diagnose and repair equipment issues.
- Troubleshooting & Repairs: Diagnose problems, repair or replace parts, and test equipment to ensure proper functioning. Perform necessary adjustments to equipment to optimize performance.
- Preventative Maintenance: Execute regular preventative maintenance on production machines, equipment, and plant facilities, following established schedules and procedures.
- Fabrication & Equipment Repair: Use tools and machines to fabricate parts or repair equipment as required.
- Blueprint & Manual Interpretation: Read and interpret blueprints, equipment manuals, and work orders to perform required maintenance and repairs.
- Process & Material Issue Identification: Identify faulty manufacturing processes or defective materials and communicate issues to operations management in a timely and clear manner.
- Compliance & Safety: Maintain and ensure compliance with safety protocols, including lock-out/tag-out procedures. Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe.
- Documentation & Reporting: Complete required documentation for work orders, maintenance records, and replacement part orders. Ensure all data collection requirements are met.
- Additional Tasks: Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor, based on operational needs.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED
- Completion of a formal apprenticeship program or an equivalent eight-year training program recognized by the skilled trades committee.
- Valid and active machine repair journeyman card.
- Strong understanding of precision measuring and gauging tools.
- Exceptional attention to detail and precision, with the ability to minimize risk of damage during operations.

WHAT ELSE YOU’LL NEED TO KNOW
- Safety Equipment: Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, including safety glasses, ear protection, and proper footwear. Other PPE (e.g., gloves, face shields) may be necessary depending on the task.
- Ability to climb ladders, work on overhead structures, and access tight or confined spaces.
- Ability to lift and move heavy items (up to 40 lbs.) with assistance available for heavier loads.
- Physical dexterity to perform tasks requiring fine manipulation, such as operating hand tools and machinery.
- Frequent walking around the facility, using both upper extremities for grasping, pushing/pulling, and reaching.
- Must be able to work in varied positions, such as bending, squatting, and twisting, to access equipment in various settings.
- Must be adaptable to a fast-paced manufacturing environment and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Vision & Depth Perception: Must have corrected vision for equipment operation and depth perception for tasks like operating a forklift.
- Occasional overtime or weekend work depending on production needs or emergency repairs.
