Job Summary:
Provides technical design support and guidance for due diligence, investigation, remediation, permitting, improvement, feasibility studies, and construction of infrastructure projects and systems from concept development to final construction. Tasks may include assisting with the research, design, site development, planning, and construction of roadways, structures, tunnels, dams, bridges, utilities, waterways, and drainage systems. Generates accurate and concise documentation and model-based reports regarding material, installations, and construction specifications. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Collect, compile, and analyze data from the physical work site, surveys, sketches and diagrams, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, geotechnical data, and other
matrices for project development, design, and construction.
• Perform professional engineering design work relating to developing engineering drawings, designs, and models from proposed and existing site conditions, resources,
general instruction, preliminary sketches, illustrations, diagrams, or schematics in conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction standards.
• Participate in incorporating advanced internal modeling techniques, concept development, design requirements, and operating strategies to account for innovative
transportation/structural systems, associated subsystems and components, the safety and functionality of end-users, and incorporation of sustainable solutions.
• Work as an individual or as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work within scope and budget, assist with
laying out installations, establishing reference points/elevations/grades to guide construction, calculating costs and quantities of material/equipment/labor, and
ensuring project design work conforms with specifications, permit applications, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos.
• Verify the characteristics of a site, providing technical assistance on various environmental, surface, grading, pavement, leveling, hydrological, construction, and
drainage issues.
• Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, sketches, calculations, and illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or
analyses.
• Contribute to the preparation of technical engineering design reports and presentations that explain research and findings to improve, prevent, control, restore, or address design and/or construction issues or problems.
• Assist with development and scoping of small- to medium-sized projects.
• Maintain site record drawings for all assigned project work.
• Conduct engineering studies and surveys to gain further information on a particular design and construction problem or issue and/or to plan for future needs.
• Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of data obtained during field/site investigations, offering design input with developing action plans for low to mid-level
risk mitigation and functional performance activities.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources, and adhere to KLJ’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline. Applicable experience can be substituted in lieu of education.
• 3 to 5 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior engineering design experience.
• Knowledge of civil, structural, transmission, or related engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to permitting, construction codes, and project work-related issues.
• Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including rehabilitation and new design.
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from data collation, analysis, professional judgement, and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
