Interface Engineering is a 100% employee-owned engineering consulting company headquartered in Portland, Oregon. The company was founded as McGinnis Engineering by Dan Pickett and Larry McGinnis in Gladstone, OR in 1969, exclusively focused on mechanical engineering. The company grew internally and through an acquisition and formed Interface Engineering in 1980. Since then, the company has continued to expand and is now is a progressive multidiscipline mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire life safety, low voltage, architectural lighting, building science, and commissioning engineering firm known for highly complex, creative, and sustainable projects throughout the United States and the world. They now operate in 11 locations across the United States with over 250 employees.
Interface Engineering became employee-owned in 2025 when they implemented an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). They are committed to promoting from within and creating an environment where every employee feels valued, trusted, and integral to our collective success. The decision to transition to an ESOP deepened this commitment by giving employees a direct stake in the company’s growth and future. According to Andy Frichtl, President, “Each employee of Interface Engineering is a trusted team member.
