Brown and Caldwell has an opportunity for an Environmental Engineering Intern to spend a summer working with our Environmental Engineering team to support our Andover, Massachusetts office. We are seeking a motivated, achievement-oriented individual who wants to spend their summer gaining practical, hands-on experience outside of the classroom. How Will You Make an Impact?
Interns at Brown and Caldwell make a daily, material impact by completing support duties to advance their team’s projects and objectives. They receive professional training and the support of their team. Interns can expect to be onboarded, mentored, and developed by industry leaders to develop real-life skills and make an impact on their assigned projects. Projects this role may work on include:
- Planning or design for a stormwater, wastewater, or drinking water infrastructure.
- The team works on a variety of projects, offering an opportunity to gain a holistic set of skills across multiple water engineering disciplines.
As an Environmental Engineering Intern, you will perform routine support duties requiring professional training but little or no experience. You may be assigned, under close supervision, to:
- Work on a variety of environmental engineering projects with an emphasis on planning and design for municipal water and wastewater treatment facilities, wastewater conveyance systems, drinking water distribution systems, and stormwater.
- Conduct engineering evaluations, execute design calculations, and prepare reports, plans, and specifications under the guidance of senior engineering staff.
- Assist with project management-related tasks for various engineering design projects.
- Check performance or conformity with plans and specifications through field inspection and testing.
- Assist with the preparation of technical memoranda, reports, and electronic deliverables.
- Assist with studies and alternative analysis.
- Assist with the development of permitting plans and permit applications.
- Assist with hydraulic modeling for stormwater, potable water, and wastewater.
- Field activities and site investigations.
- Data collection, manipulation, analysis, and documentation.
- Successfully deliver assignments on time and on budget.
- Participate in and adhere to BC’s QA/QC process.
- We are looking for an intern to join us for a July through December six-month co-op position, or a summer internship opportunity (approx. June through August) for 2025.
This will be a hybrid position working out of Brown and Caldwell’s Andover, Massachusetts. This will be two or three days in the office with two- or three-days remote depending on project activity and need.
Desired Skills and Experience:
What Must Our Candidate Have? (Required)
To qualify for an internship, you must be enrolled in a full-time program (minimum nine credit hours per semester) seeking a degree in engineering, science, geology, or a related field. You also must be in good standing and carry an overall GPA of at least 3.0 in your core curriculum, as well as a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.
Candidate must have a valid US Drivers License and access to a vehicle.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Look Like? (Preferred)

- Classroom experience in environmental, civil, or mechanical engineering.
- Experience with GIS or AutoCAD.
Salary Range: The hourly pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.
