Welding and Shop Repair Technician

PURPOSE

The Welding and Shop Repair Technician is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing a wide range of welding and fabrication shop equipment. This role ensures that all machines operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and industry standards. The technician will also be responsible for documenting all inspections, repairs, and service activities to support accurate maintenance records and equipment reliability.

This position could potentially require working 2^nd shift or on-call, based on business needs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are typical for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Perform routine inspections on all shop equipment to identify potential issues, wear, or safety concerns.
Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance to minimize equipment downtime and ensure optimal performance.
Diagnose, repair, and service welding machines, including MIG, TIG, and stick welders.
Maintain and repair positioners, rotators, and related welding automation equipment.
Troubleshoot and repair plasma cutting machines and their components.
Service and maintain laser welding systems, ensuring proper calibration and safe operation.
Identify root causes of equipment malfunctions and implement effective repair solutions.
Accurately document all inspections, repairs, parts used, and service actions performed.
Document repairs and services CORE platform.
Maintain up-to-date equipment service logs and ensure compliance with company maintenance procedures.
Serve as point of contact with vendors regarding warranty repairs.
Provide clear reports on equipment conditions, recommended repairs, and completed work.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

High school diploma or equivalent
Experience repairing welding and fabrication equipment.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
Strong troubleshooting and mechanical/electrical repair skills.
Knowledge of shop safety practices and OSHA requirements.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTAL FUNCTIONS

Demonstrated ability to identify issues quickly, analyze root causes and determine effective repair solutions for complex welding and shop equipment.
Capacity to recognize potential equipment hazards and adjust methods to avoid risk in the shop environment.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain equipment issues, repair needs and service results to managers and team members.
Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
Strong attention to detail and organization skills.

ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY

Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, climbing, reaching.
Ability to regularly lift 50 pounds and more occasionally.
Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel and crouch.
Ability to work in a variety of temperature and weather conditions in a warehouse setting.
