Brewer Science, Inc. is a major innovator of high-technology solutions for the semiconductor / microelectronics markets. We are currently seeking a purpose-driven candidate with an ownership mentality to fill an open position as an Advanced Semiconductor Packaging Field Applications Engineer (level III, IV, or V). This position will be located Remote within the United States. The preferred location for this position is Missouri or Arizona.
Summary:
Field Application Engineers play a critical role in bridging advanced materials development with semiconductor customer needs by providing on-site technical support, process optimization, and product integration expertise. As key technical liaisons, FAEs work directly with the fab engineers to troubleshoot issues, qualify new products, and drive adoption of company solutions through hands-on evaluations and strategic collaboration. This position is a customer-facing and solution-oriented role that involves traveling to customer sites to understand and communicate customer needs.
Responsibilities:
Field Applications Engineer III:
- Conduct on-site support during product trials, assisting with installation, calibration, and evaluation of chemical products in customer fab environments.
- Learn and anticipate customer process needs through direct communication and data review; propose process solutions based on observations and experience.
- Independently run experiments and lab simulations that replicate customer fab environments, helping guide internal development and demonstrating material advantages.
- Collaborate with factory applications engineering in the design and execution of internal testing and customer demonstrations
- Build customer trust by delivering technical training and demonstrations that highlight unique capabilities and competitive advantages.
- Own specific tool sets or process areas at customer accounts and be responsible for monitoring and maintaining consistent performance metrics.
- Troubleshoot product integration issues and escalate complex problems with well-documented findings to internal R&D or engineering teams.
- Support new product introductions by preparing qualification plans, running comparative data analyses, and providing real-time feedback to customers and product teams.
- Create customer-facing documentation, including application notes, best-practice guidelines, and field service reports.
- Train junior engineers and customer staff on product use, safety protocols, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Build relationships with process engineers and line owners at customer sites to identify continuous improvement opportunities.
- Contribute to cross-functional technical discussions and early-stage product design based on observed customer requirements and field challenges.
- Serve as the primary technical contact for multiple customer accounts, independently managing on-site evaluations, process audits, and troubleshooting efforts.
- Lead and execute complex product trials, working across customer fabs and internal teams to define success metrics and timelines.
- Troubleshoot integration problems, yield challenges, or reliability issues in customer fabs.
- Coordinate technical support across internal teams including R&D, quality engineering, factory applications engineering, and manufacturing
- Perform in-depth root cause analyses on product or process deviations using data from multiple tools and inspection techniques (e.g., SEM, defect review, metrology).
- Actively participate in customer meetings, presenting technical findings, performance benchmarks, and proposed solutions or optimizations.
- Support sales and product management by participating in technical discussions, road mapping sessions, and technology assessments.
- Continuously relay insights from the field to R&D, product management, and operations teams, helping the organization stay ahead of emerging customer and industry trends.
- Mentor entry-level and junior engineers in both lab-based skills and field-based customer engagement practices.
- Generate internal technical reports and contribute to conference presentations or whitepapers where appropriate.
- Initiate and lead FMEA and technical risk assessments for new customer engagements or product rollouts; ensure that potential issues are preemptively addressed.
- Collaborate with internal product management and development teams to refine products based on in-field learnings and customer process shifts.
- Author and publish internal and external application notes that demonstrate thought leadership and educate the broader semiconductor community on product performance.
- Proactively identify opportunities for the company to participate earlier in customer development cycles and deepen technical collaboration
Field Applications Engineer IV:
- Same duties as Field Applications Engineer III
- Additional duties as Field Application Engineer IV:
- Lead major customer engagements involving new product rollouts, advanced troubleshooting, and long-term integration projects across global sites.
- Establish trusted advisor status by delivering strategic training, proposing co-development activities, and supporting long-term partnerships.
- Develop and execute customer-specific strategies that align with product capabilities and end-use requirements, often bridging the gap between internal R&D and process engineers.
- Proactively identify potential process risks or performance gaps and develop mitigation strategies in advance of product qualification phases.
- Coordinate cross-functional project teams, including manufacturing, engineering, R&D, and quality, to deliver timely field solutions with measurable results.
- Evaluate lab capabilities across the organization, requesting appropriate internal resources and planning support work for demos or customer investigations.
- Represent the company as a senior technical authority in customer meetings, technical reviews, and roadmap discussions.
- Identify and pursue opportunities to increase company involvement in early-stage product development activities at customer sites.
- Develop training programs and standardized field protocols for global field applications engineers and technicians.
- Maintain awareness of industry trends, competing technologies, and customer roadmaps to anticipate emerging requirements and propose innovative solutions.
- Recommend and influence changes to product specifications, formulations, or processing guidelines based on complex field performance feedback.
- Create high-impact application notes, white papers, and other materials to position the company as an industry leader in process capability
