About the role:
The Preconstruction Engineer provides support to the preconstruction lead ultimately responsible for certain aspects of the preconstruction/estimating effort of each assigned project.
Essential Functions:
- Provide support for assigned projects inclusive of preparing estimates, quantity takeoffs, clarifications, and other project related tasks.
- Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors and vendors.
- Assist with RFP and RFQ response processes.
- Solicit pricing proposals from subcontractors and vendors.
- Assist the Preconstruction lead for design build/assist projects including estimating of design milestones, value engineering, constructability, schedule review, managing design/build subcontractors, maintaining and identifying long lead items
- Assist in preparing estimates for all stages of design from conceptual through final construction documents (design/build, guaranteed maximum price and hard bid diversity) with input, assistance and review from project management and field staff.
- Assist in project hand-off to project management, field staff, and accounting.
- Assist project managers with project buyout.
- Assist in collecting cost data and maintaining the cost database.
- Load quantities and subcontractor quotes into bid tabs and evaluate proposals to identify the lowest responsible proposal.
- Demonstrate presentation and sales skills while assisting and serving on RFP/interview teams.
- Knowledge of commercial, medical, multi-family, design/build, and design/assist construction projects.
- Exceptional written, verbal and presentation skills.
- Analytical skills, mathematical aptitude and solutions oriented.
- Ability to handle multiple projects concurrently and prioritize accordingly.
- Demonstrate ability for accuracy and thoroughness.

Requirements
Education and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, related field, or equivalent experience.
- Prior experience in a Project Engineer or Field Engineer role.
- Have a basic understanding of construction means and methods.
- Proficiency with Sage Timberline Estimating, ConstructConnect, BuildingConnected, Bluebeam, and MS suite.
- Prior experience with project information management software. CMiC, Procore, Autodesk, and ASTA scheduling experience a plus.
- Candidates must have acceptable Motor Vehicle record and be able to pass a background check per company policy.
- Current driver’s license which has been valid for the past 12 consecutive months.
Work Environment: This is a full-time in-person role based in our Fort Collins, Colorado office.

Salary: Range of $57,500-$95,000 annually. Salary is commensurate with technical skills and experience.
