We are seeking a Technical Writer with a strong mechanical foundation who thrives in a hands-on manufacturing environment and understands how complex, heavy equipment is built, operated, and serviced.
This position is ideal for someone who has written operator manuals, service guides, and parts documentation for physical machinery and is comfortable working directly with engineers, technicians, and production teams on the shop floor.
Position summary
The Technical Writer plays a critical role in supporting performance, serviceability, and safety of Rotochopper’s industrial equipment. You will create and maintain technical documentation used by equipment operators, service technicians, and dealers worldwide.
Success in this role requires more than writing skills – it requires the ability to understand mechanical systems, interpret engineering drawings, and translate complex equipment details into clear, accurate instructions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and maintain a variety of technical documents, including operator manuals, service and maintenance guides, parts manuals, and installation instructions
- Review equipment designs, assemblies, and service procedures to ensure documentation accuracy
- Work directly with engineering, service and manufacturing teams to gather and validate technical content
- Update documentation in support of Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
- Use CAD software (2D/3D) to edit existing drawings and create illustrations and exploded views
- Maintain document accuracy, version control, and BOM alignment within our ERP system (NetSuite)
- Continuously improve documentation clarity, usability, and consistency
QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate degree, technical diploma, or certification in Technical Writing, Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field.
- 2+ years of technical writing experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or heavy equipment environment
- Proven experience writing documentation for physical machinery (not software, IT systems, or end-user applications)
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications
- Working knowledge of mechanical systems such as drive systems, bearings, shafts, and assemblies, electrical and hydraulic components is highly desirable
- Proficiency with technical authoring tools (e.g., Adobe FrameMaker)
- Practical experience using CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar) for basic edits and illustrations
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
