Senior Treatment Operations Specialist - Grand Junction, CO
Serves as a senior, lead-level technical resource responsible for operating and maintaining public water and wastewater systems to ensure regulatory compliance, system reliability, and operational efficiency. Independently adjusts flows, monitors control and SCADA systems, calculates and adjusts chemical dosing, and troubleshoots complex operational issues. This role provides technical leadership and mentoring to less experienced operators, assists clients in improving system performance and operational knowledge, and supports studies and the preparation of technical documentation and reports.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee day to day water and wastewater treatment operations.
- Analyze operational data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and risks and recommend corrective operational actions
- Troubleshoot complex process, equipment, and compliance issues
- Recognize and respond to unusual or hazardous operating conditions
- Provide technical guidance and training to junior operators through coaching, task demonstration, and operational oversight during assigned shifts
- Assist with operational studies, optimization efforts, and corrective action planning
- Support emergency response activities
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and permits
Basic
- High school diploma or GED
- North Dakota Class II or III Operator Certification or state equivalent (or ability to obtain)
- Valid driver’s license
- All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
Preferred
- Associate degree in utilities, environmental science, or related field
- Advanced mechanical or electrical troubleshooting experience
Physical
- Ability to walk up to 10 miles on uneven terrain.
- May require lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, with rare lifting of up to 75 pounds.
- Perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs as well as moving the whole body such as running, maneuvering, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
- Drive and navigate vehicles or mechanized equipment including but not limited to all-terrain vehicles or watercraft.
- Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
- Use hands and arms to handle, install, position, and manipulate or move materials.
- Service, repair, calibrate, regulate, fine-tune, or test machines, devices, and equipment that operate primarily based on electrical or electronic principles.
- Ability to climb ladders and access elevated areas on a frequent basis to perform operational checks, maintenance activities, and troubleshooting of treatment equipment.
- May be required to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) including but not limited to, flame resistant clothing, hard hat, and protective footwear.
- May require occasional evenings and weekends with overtime expectations varying with workload.
- May be required to travel to off-site locations including occasional overnight stays out of town.
